The new contender in the SUV market is a sub 4 meter Taigun from the stables of Volkswagen. It is based on the company’s New Small Family (NSF) platform that is also employed for the hatchback trim – Up. The bold and clean external design will please the target buyers in India. As compared to Ford EcoSport, this car appears lot less radical - its sleek body and well defined contours are the best parts of external design.
Taigun revealed at the Sao Paolo international Motor Show was 3859 mm in length but Volkswagen has plans to bring a stretched version with longer wheelbase while still restricting the length to less than 4000 mm. The point is to offer ample cabin space in a sub 4 metre SUV. For interior design scheme too, clean and uncluttered look is quite evident. User friendliness of cabin equipment is also being taken care of.
On the mechanical front, the Taigun might get 1.0 litre, three cylinder, turbo petrol engine that churns out 108 bhp. Volkswagen engineers are also working on the development of a new set of diesel motors and so a 1.4 litre, three cylinder unit may also find its way into the engine bay of this new SUV.
It will take some time before we see the full fledged launch of this new car but it can certainly help Volkswagen to bag some more brownie points in India.
