VW India today launched updated edition of Jetta saloon in India in price range between Rs 13.87 lakh and Rs 19.77 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). New Jetta comes in both petrol and diesel variants with total of 3 trims in diesel and 2 trims in petrol offering. Further while petrol is available in only manual 6-speed transmission, diesel comes with both manual and automatic gearbox. Updated Jetta has got some subtle cosmetic up gradations that include new bi-xenon headlamps with DRLs, redesigned front bumper with new fog lamps, and tweaked rear with modified tail lights. Inside the cabin, there is new 3-spoke steering wheel that houses various telephony and music controls. Another significant addition is cruise control that has now become standard in Jetta across all variants and trim levels. Safety has been taken care of through the inclusion of 6 airbags in feature list while braking efficiency is fostered with ABS, brake assist and electronic differential lock. New Jetta offers high level of creature comfort with dual zone automatic climate controls, electrically operated and heated ORVMs, reach and rake adjusted steering wheel, and music system with 6 CD changer facility. New Jetta is pitted against likes of Skoda Superb, Hyundai Elantra and Toyota Corolla Altis.
‘The correct size’, ‘practical drive’ and ‘charming looks’ would be some of the few words to describe the Volkswagen New Jetta which gladly fits into all kinds of roles in quite a hassle-free manner. The Volkswagen Jetta was earlier adapted from the Golf hatchback by adding a trunk to it. The attractive New Jetta is a sharp looking vehicle with chiselled features as it moves around with stylish alloy wheels and chrome finishing. It has also been equipped with dual exhaust pipes and a shark fin “diversity” antenna.
On the inside also, the Jetta is well set with rich looking fabric and leatherette upholstery (depending on the variants). A storage compartment headliner has been given and it also has a lockable and illuminated glove compartment. Vanity mirrors with illumination have also been installed and controls for the MFD, audio system have been given on the steering wheel control which makes for a handy addition.

The Jetta 1.4L TSI (MT) that comes in both the Trendline and the Comfortline has a 4 cylinder, in line, turbocharged, inter-cooled petrol engine - this has a 6 speed manual transmission. It gives out a power of 122 PS @ 5000 rpm and a torque of 200 Nm @ 1500-4000 rpm. It achieves a fuel efficiency of about 14.69 kms/litre and a top speed of 202 kms/hour.
The Jetta 2.0L CR TDI (MT) is available in all three variants: Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. The engine type is a 4 cylinder, in line, CR turbocharged diesel engine which also comes with a 6 speed manual transmission. It gives out a power of 140 PS @ 4200 rpm and a torque of 320 Nm @ 1750-2500 rpm. It achieves a fuel efficiency of about 19.33 kms/litre and a top speed of 210 kms/hour.
The Jetta 2.0L CR TDI (AT) is only available in the Highline segment and the engine type is a 4 cylinder, in line, CR turbocharged diesel engine with a 6 speed automatic (DSG) transmission. It also rolls out a power of 140 PS @ 4200 rpm and a torque of 320 Nm @ 1750-2500 rpm. It achieves a fuel efficiency of about 16.96 kms/litre and a top speed of 208 kms/hour.
All the above variants come equipped with disc brakes at the front and the rear and have a minimum turning radius of 5.5 metres.
As for the colours in which the New Jetta is available, Volkswagen once again lays out an array of them including Candy White, Reflex Silver Metallic, Platinum Grey Metallic and more. It has been priced between 13.60 lakh and 18.96 lakh depending on the variants. The Volkswagen Jetta TDI (clean diesel) was also honoured with the 2009 ‘Green Car of the Year’ award by the Green Car Journal.
