Globally launched in 2005 in Thailand, Toyota Fortuner made its India debut in 2009 and has since then been one of the most popular SUVs in the country. With its growing popularity it won’t be wrong if we call it the torch bearer of Toyota. Apart from India the car is also sold in several other countries like Indonesia, Pakistan, Singapore, Jamaica etc.
Initially the car was launched with only one variant and with initial production capacity of 500 units per month but with the increasing demands the production capacity was raised to 950 vehicles per month. Its popularity can also be measured with the several awards in its kitty namely “Consumer favorite Enthusiast focused Car 2010”, “Consumer favorite Off Road 2010” both by Auto Build etc to name few of them. Fortuner is currently competing with the likes of Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero, Chevrolet Captiva, Honda CR-V etc. The popular vehicle is available in 7 different colours namely White Pearl Mica

Moving forward, the Toyota Fortuner is equipped with 3.0 L D-4D Diesel with Intercooler Turbocharger, 4 Cylinders In-line with 16 Valve DOHC. The SUV has a displacement of 2982 cc and has common rail type fuel supply system. It has a peak power of 171 PS @3600 rpm and peak torque of 343 NM @1400-3400 rpm in its 4WD MT & 2WD MT and 360 NM @ 1400-3400 rpm in its 2WD AT variant. It has a fuel tank capacity of 80 L. The Toyota Fortuner 2WD AT and 4WD MT has an ARAI certified mileage of 12.55 kmpl while the 2WD MT has an ARAI certified mileage of 13 kmpl.
Fortuner has got 5 Speed Manual in its 4WD variant, 5 Speed Automatic in 2WD variants and 5 Speed Manual 2WD MT transmission. It has Double Wishbone suspension in the front and 4-Link with Lateral Rod in the suspension. The car comes with Ventilated Disc in the front and Leading-Trailing Drum in the rear.
In terms of dimension and weight the Fortuner is 4705 mm of length, 1840 mm of width and 1850 mm of height. It has a wheelbase of 2750 mm and front and rear tread of 1540 mm. Minimum ground clearance is 220 mm and minimum turning radius is 5.9 m (4WD MT), 5.6 m (2WD AT & 2WD MT). The maximum Kerb weight are 1970 kg (4WD MT), 1885 kg (2WD AT) & 1880 kg (2WD MT) and Gross Weight are 2510 kg (4WD MT), 2505 kg (2WD AT) & 2505 kg (2WD MT).
When it comes to exterior, Fortuner has got a massive look. It’s powerful and muscular look is sure to make its appearance stay apart even in the crowd. The front of the vehicle has a chrome grille with several slats and a Toyota logo placed in the middle. The headlamps on each end come with self leveling projector lamps while the fog lamps provides clear view even in adverse weather conditions. The bonnet of the vehicle has character lines and a wide air vent for cooling of the intercooler. Moving on to the side profile, the vehicle has electric foldable and adjustable chrome finish outside rear view mirrors with side turn indicators and side steps providing utmost comfort and safety as well. The over-fender and the roof rails take the persona of the SUV to another level. The chrome door handles goes well with the overall look of the vehicle while the 17” aluminium wheels and 265/65 R17 imparts flair to it. On the rear side, the presence of printed antenna on the rear quarter glass reduces wind resistance. While presence of sleek rear spoiler imparts sportiness, the rear window defogger present below clears condensation from the rear window and helps get a clear view of the rear. The rear combination lamps with wedge cut inner lenses looks good.
The interior of the Fortuner is extremely stylish and comfortable. The SUV comes with 3 rows and has a seating capacity of 7 people: 2 in the 1st, 3 in the 2nd and 2 in the 3rd row seat (all leather seats). The driver seat is 6 way power adjustable. The front and second row seats can be slided while all the three row seats can be reclined. The second row seat comes with armrest and 60:40 split can be tumbled to increase cargo capacity. The third row seats can also be easily folded 50:50 and moved out of the way (space-up) to maximize space and create ample cargo room.
The dashboard comes with dual tone beige colour and has been designed well. It houses an advanced instrument cluster with easy to read three dial optitron meter. The multi information display has a clock, displays outside temperature information, average fuel consumption, cruising range, average vehicle speed and compass of the vehicle. The dashboard also houses 2DIN Display Audio with LCD Touch-screen, DVD, Bluetooth and USB, Aux-in. The audio system also comprises of 6 speakers for maximum entertainment during the journey. The vehicle also consists of several other features like Dual Auto A/c (with Rear Air Conditioner Switch & Ceiling Vents for 2nd & 3rd Rows), Steering Wheel with Audio MID and Bluetooth control switches, Cruise Control, Keyless Entry, Rear Camera with Display, MID (Multi Information Display), Black Wood-like finish panels and Shift Position Indicator etc.

All in all, if you are looking for a muscular look and feel in a vehicle then Fortuner is the one. The interior of the vehicle is also appealing and comfortable and the only negative point is its high price range which certainly is a disadvantage for the vehicle in the ever competitive market.
