Tata Nano, touted the world’s cheapest car made its debut in 2009. Even before the vehicle was launched it made a furor in the market and was an instant hit. Termed as a small wonder the vehicle was initially launched with the petrol version while its CNG variant made its debut in June 2013.

Tata Nano is available in three different variants namely Nano, Nano CX and Nano LX. Nano is available in Rouge Red, Serene White and Aqua Blue colours, Nano CX is available in Serene White, Papaya Orange, Neon Rush, Meteor Silver, Champagne Gold & Rouge Red colours while the Nano LX is available in Champagne Gold, Meteor Silver, Mojito Green, Papaya Orange, Pearl White & Sunshine Yellow colours.
The Tata Nano petrol variant is powered by 624 cc, 2 cylinder, MPFI engine. The vehicle has maximum power of 38 PS @ 5500 ± 250 rpm and maximum torque of 51 Nm @ 4000 ± 500 rpm and has top speed of 105 kmpl. Its transmission is Synchromesh on all forward gears, Sliding mesh on reverse gear and with overdrive on 4th gear. In terms of suspension the Nano has Independent, Lower Wishbone, McPherson Strut with gas filled dampers and anti-roll bar in the front and Independent, Semi Trailing arm with coil spring & gas filled shock absorbers in the rear. The vehicle has an ARAI mileage of 25.35 kmpl.
The Nano has an overall length of 3099 mm, Width of 1495 mm (Without ORVMs) and Height of 1652 mm. It has a wheelbase of 2230 mm, ground clearance is 180 mm and minimum turning circle radius is 4m. The fuel tank capacity is 15 l. The Kerb weight of Nano, Nano CX and Nano LX are 600 kg, 615 kg and 635 kg respectively.
When it comes to look the front of the Tata Nano has a slope like small bonnet. The bonnet holds holds two headlights and a Tata logo in the middle. The LX variant consists of body coloured bumpers, front and rear fog lamps. The front windshield also holds two speed wipers in all its variants while the LX variant has two speed and intermittent wipers. The lower variant has plaint front windshield while the CX and LX has tinted windshields. In the side profile the LX variant has body coloured door handles which looks good and driver side ORVMs. The car also has roof spoiler that makes the look sportier.
The interior of Tata Nano has been designed keeping in mind the typical Indian family mindset. The car can comfortably adjust four people. The lowest variant has Dual Tone Vinyl seat upholstery while the Nano CX variant has Trendy Black Fabric upholstery and LX variant has Premium Beige Fabric upholstery. The dashboard is medium graphite in the lowest variant, Ebony Black in the CX variant and Barley Beige in the LX variant. The roof lining in the Nano is Jute based while the CX and LX variant is Polyster Fabric. Even though priced lowly the car is equipped with several safety features. The vehicle has safety features like Center High Mount Stop Lamp, Laminated Windshield, Door Lock on Driver Side, Booster-assisted Brakes, Front & Rear Seat Belts, Additional Body Reinforcements, Intrusion beam, Radial Tubeless tyres and Central Locking (LX variant).
Overall, keeping budget in mind the car is extremely fuel efficient and a good one for daily city commuting. Looking after its size, the car can be parked easily anywhere. But yes if you are looking for power then certainly this is not the car for you. Another flip side is its small fuel tank which is a disadvantage if you are going on a long trip.
