Renault Scala is the Indian name of the sub compact 4 door sedan Nissan Sunny. Manufactured by Nissan, it is also called the Nissan Versa and Nissan Almera in different parts of the world. Scala was launched in India in 2012.
The Renault Scala is once again unmatched in terms of its design and stylish appeal. The big, bold Renault logo in the centre and the stylish headlamps which beautifully merge with the car’s body add oodles of elegance to the vehicle. There is a chrome finish on the chic designs of the exterior door handles and the window base lining. A ‘Scala’ embossed chrome trunk design also modishly flows into the rear taillights.
On the inside, it comes loaded with all the pretty mechanisms that are capable of making one swoon over the Renault Scala. For example - the Automatic Climate control with air filter that helps you set the desired temperature of the car cabin and keeps you comfy irrespective of the weather conditions outside. A multifunctional smart key is provided with which one can lock and unlock the door by just touching the request switch on the door panel. The trunk door can also be controlled with the electric touch of this smart key fob. An illuminated and automatic engine Start/Stop push button is there and various other minute details - such as the chrome furnished inside door handles, rear seat armrest with cup holders and leather wrapped steering wheel with mounted audio controls - add to the comfort of the passengers of Scala. The Renault Scala comes in quite a few variants to choose from and these include:
RxE and RxL - Petrol with 5 speed manual transmission gearbox
RxE and RxZ - Petrol with Automatic Transmission (Continuously Variable Transmission or CVT)
RxE, RxL and RxZ – Diesel with 5 speed manual transmission gearbox
The Petrol variants deliver a power of 99 PS @ 6000 rpm and a torque of 134 Nm @ 4000 rpm. The Diesel variants on the other hand roll out a power of 86 PS @ 3750 rpm and torque of 200 Nm @ 2000 rpm. The Petrol X- Tronic (CVT) is capable of a 101 PS @ 5600 rpm and 134 Nm @ 4000 rpm and as per Renault’s claim, it efficiently manages a mileage of 17.97 kms/litre.
Renault has also launched a limited edition of Scala RxZ Diesel – this is called the ‘Scala Travelogue Edition’ and the company claims that it delivers an excellent fuel efficiency of 21.64 kms/litre. There is an addition of some more refinements on this edition such as the touch-screen multimedia navigation system, rear sun shade and blinkers on the ORVMs among others.
The Renault Scala comes equipped with McPherson Strut suspension and disc brakes in the front along with Torsion Bar suspension and drum brakes in the rear. With a fuel tank capacity of 41 litres, boot space of 490 litres and seating capacity of 5 people; this car is a reassuring experience to drive in. Scala is available in five colours: Solid Black, Pearl White, Metallic Silver, Metallic Blue and Metallic Red. The price ranges between 8.22 lakhs and 11.15 lakhs as per the choice of variant.
While Renault has won a lot of distinguished awards in India, mainly owing to its roaring success of the Duster, the Scala has also not gone totally unnoticed.
