Next in line to the Nissan Sunny XE is the Nissan Sunny XL. This mid segment variant has a lot more to offer than its younger sibling in terms of gadgetry and styling. The engine is the same: a DOHC, 16 valves, 4 cylinder petrol engine with a 5 speed manual transmission that (as per Nissan’s claims) gives a mileage of 16.95 kms/litre.
In terms of detailing on the outside and the inside, the Sunny XL is much more and much better than what we find on the base variant:
The Nissan Sunny XL has been styled with body coloured outside door mirrors and handles. There is a chrome plated radiator grill that proudly fashions itself on the front of the car. The alloy wheels are missing on this one too but the wheels however do come with full wheel covers. The mirrors on the outside are also electrically adjustable, adding to the convenience of the driver.
On the inside of this large and spacious cabin, the first most delightful thing that grabs one’s attention is the integrated audio system with aux in port. The car is equipped with four speakers for one’s musical needs. An important feature that comes with the Nissan Sunny is the ‘drive computer’ that lets you keep track of things such as average fuel consumption (to help in economical driving) and an estimate of the distance that can be driven before stopping to re fuel. Other minor adjustments such as adjustable front and rear headrests add to the comfort of the car.
Comfort & Convenience
The mid segment variant offers a lot more in addition to what the base model already has when it comes to comfort inside the car cabin. There is an auto AC with filter and audio controls are mounted on the electric power steering wheel. The driver’s side front window comes with an Autodown and Antipinch function. Adding to it is the Central door locking function which was not seen on the XE. Also useful additions such as the boot lamp, a remote keyless entry system and driver seat height adjustment system add greatly to the overall quality of this vehicle.
The standard Nissan Sunny features such as the ABS (Anti Lock Brake system) with EBD (Electronic Brake distribution) and the engine immobilizer are all there. This variant however, in addition to an airbag on the driver’s side also gets an airbag on the passenger side. There is an Anti theft device with alarm system also installed. What is missing however on this variant too are the front fog lamps which could have been a great feature, had they been there.
The Nissan Sunny XL is priced at 7.21 lakhs (Ex showroom price- Delhi). It manages to give a fairly consistent drive and handling on the road along with a dash of qualities that one normally looks for in a well equipped car of this segment.
