The sedan that markets itself as a ‘car’ for its roomy interiors has distributed safety and comfort features well across all its variants. With huge competition in the segment, it may not have not have created records in terms of sales and general popularity, but has been accepted as a standard family car in India. We check out the basic elements and special features that give Nissan Sunny XL Diesel its distinct identity.
The diesel base variant comes with a 1461 cc engine and delivers a fuel efficiency of 13.6 km/ litre in the city and 18.7 km/ litre on the highway, making it an attractive buy in the sedan segment. It has a 5 speed manual transmission and churns out a power of 85 bhp at 3750 rpm & a torque of 200 Nm @ 2000 rpm.
The dynamically created silhouette of Nissan Sunny looks good with its body coloured bumpers, ORVMs and green tinted glass. The design however may seem too curvy to those of you who consider Skoda Rapid and VW Vento better looking cars. This base variant also misses chrome plated external door handles. ORVMs need to be adjusted manually. And the 185/70 R14 tyres are fitted on simple, non-alloy wheels. Nissan has done a good paint job. To summarise for the exterior styling, Sunny XL diesel has a rather unconventional but sensible design.
Stepping inside, the design again does not look special but is quite ergonomic and practical. The A/C control panel is easy to use and the system indeed works intelligently. Its powerful front blowers can strongly cool the entire cabin very well. There is an in-built audio system with four speakers and aux-in port. This variant of Sunny has adjustable front and rear headrests. It may be the drive computer, tachometer and digital clock or the centre arm-rest with cup holder and remote boot opener, all features and instrument panels have premium built quality. The grey and beige interiors are spacious (and that is the aspect being highlighted by Nissan for this ‘caaar’). For the rear passengers, this sedan offers more leg room than some others in its category.
Comfort and Convenience
Sunny XL diesel comes with an electric power steering that also gives you tilt adjustment convenience. Other special features in the car include 12 V accessory socket, headlight-on warning light and key remove warning light. With steering mounted audio controls, central door locking system and remote keyless entry, the car is packed with ample comfort and convenience features for a base variant.
For safety you have an ABS (Anti Lock brake system) along with EBD (Electronic brake distribution). Even this base variant comes with driver and front passenger air bags as also engine immobilizer. Other safety features for the car include door ajar indication, an anti-theft device with alarm, speed sensing auto door lock and front fog lamps
Nissan has kept a price tag of Rs 8.30 lakhs for this sedan. As a base variant, it gives you fair share of features and good fuel efficiency if not an extraordinary design and excellent ride.
