Nissan Micra has gone from being a just mere notable presence to what is much more to eyes andan economical hatch.Nissan looks to reorganize its hatch offering with more revised designing and aggressive pricing. When Nissan first launched its Micra model in 2010 it had distinctive road appearance with all-most all the likings to make it acounterattempt on its competitors barring its price being on higher side.
Learning and adapting to the market trends Nissan made amendments with its Micra. The new Nissan Micra Active has already been launched this July 2013. It is based on previous generation Micra and not been built on altogether new platform. It is a redesigned and low-costMicra with the focus being on to tap the profitsof lowersegment, stretching back itself from premium hatchback category and to cater to the largercustomer-base demand. Not only it just comes with cosmetic change and cheap-price tag but it also brings refinement and incredible mileage with Micra Active, smashing its own previous standard.
The new Micra Active available in six different colours:oynx black, turquoise blue, aqua green, blade silver, brick red and storm white. The cabin greets you with airy cabin, spacious seats, with front seats having the fixed headrests and rear having the adjustable ones. The seats are designed to give better under-thigh support, while giving enough knee room. There is enough head room and shoulder space for 5 passengers. The plastic and overall materials used in interiors are good to give comfortable ambience and ride. The dashboard has dual tone black and green colour, having spacious glove-box and an ergonomically placed audio system, control buttons and AC vents. The Manual AC keeps cabin cool and ventilated all the time of ride. Despite being cheaply priced it doesn`t compromise on the driving features of tilt-steering, handy audio system with USB and Aux-in ports with front speakers, power windows, cup-holders, keyless-entry and central locking. The boot space is decent with 251 litres of luggage space.
New Nissan Micra Active comes in four petrol variants- XE, XL, XV and XV S. The XE has body-coloured bumpers, power steering wheels with tilt-adjust, black ORVM`s, BA immobiliser and an air-con. The XL variant comes with body-coloured bumpers, keyless entry, front windows are power windows, adjustable rear headrests, internally adjustable ORVM`s, speed-sensitive central locking and a power outlet. The XV variant has body-coloured ORVM`s and door handles, little different front bumper, front and rear power windows, 2-Din audio system having USB and Aux-in ports with speakers in front, tachometer, wheel covers, luggage shelf, passenger side vanity mirror and rear boot space shelf. Whereas the top-end XV S(Safety Pack) variant comes loaded with lower variants features plus loaded with safety provisions like driver Airbag, door-open warning indicator, ABS and EBD. All variant have simple front appearance, with minimum-fuss design. The Nissan badge appears above small black grille without chrome being used. Front headlamp cluster has black outlining and indicators are on inner-side rather than on outer-side of headlamp.It has a sporty profile and curvy look. There are no fog lamps and alloy wheels provided in any of the variants. The prices for Micra Active vary from Rs.3.5 to 4.71 Lacs.
Nissan Micra Active has highly efficient and optimally powered petrol engine inclined to give more mileage. The Active is powered with 1198cc, DOHC unit, with 3 in line cylinders that delivers 68Ps at 4000rpm and generating a max power of 104Nm at 5000rpm. It has 5 speed manual gearbox diligently mated with engine. Nissan mainly launched this petrol unit for city traffic which also performs well on the highways as well. Being efficiency a major concernbehind developing this engine, it is worth having for any customer as it gives a highly pocket-saving 19.49kmpl. The Active`s weight being less than 30kg than previous model, makes it more real its fuel efficiency credentials.
Micra Active has all the refinement done for the city driving. The right mix of power output and fuel efficiency does not make the driving experience less enjoyable. It has decent ride quality with front being Mcpherson Strut and rear being Torsion Beam suspension. The Steering column being electronic powered giving the Active minimum turning radius of 4.6m and to be manoeuvred at tight spaces with ease. The steelwheels are of 13 inch giving a ground clearance of 154mm.
The best that Nissan could have done to its Micra marque is what it has actualised, making it altogether a new model with aggressive pricing rather than just a variant. And been the best done, let`s hope best for Nissan altogether.
