Nissan has created a vehicle for the MUV segment too and this comes in the form of Evalia – a spacious van that is available in 4 variants. Its versatility is the primary USP of the Evalia though it is better suited for commercial use than being a vehicle for family transport.
It runs on 1461 cc 4 cylinder diesel engine and is a 5 speed manual across all variants. Evalia XE is the base model in this league and is priced at 8.70 lakhs (ex showroom Delhi).
Here’s an account of its chief features:
The Evalia has a rather rectangular and breakbox appearance. But the front face that gets V shaped grille with chrome finish, and the lightly angled swept back headlamps give it the look of a mainstream Japanese car. Since XE is the base variant, it comes with steel wheels as against alloy ones in the high end model, but they do have full wheel covers. The bumper, ORVMs and door handles get a body colour treatment. Nissan Evalia XE has a very flat surface on the sides and sliding rear doors. It comes with green tinted windows.
Since this is a multi utility van-like vehicle, the interiors have a roomy feel. Thanks to the convenience of double folding for second row seats and side folding for side row seats, you can create more space. The cabin is fabric upholstered in light beige colour that complements the grey shade of the dashboard. Instrument panel is a multi function display with Tachometer, Cruising Range, Real time Fuel Efficiency, Gear shift indicator, Odd-trip Meter & Fuel Meter. Although XE is the base variant, you get a 12V power supply socket in the cabin. There’s a manual air conditioning set-up but Nissan does not offer an integrated music system.
Comfort and convenience
To make the roomy interiors of this MUV little more comfortable, the manufacturer has equipped Evalia XE with standard features. So it comes with a rake adjustable power steering, a dead paddle (for foot rest) and electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors. High end facilities like power windows and central locking are of course missing since this is only a base variant.
The prime safety aspect in Evalia XE is the anti lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. It also gets height adjustable front rear belt seats and the head restraints for both front and rear seats can also be adjusted as per passenger height. Other safety features in this base model for Evalia include engine immobilizer, a high set stop lamp, anti glare rare view mirror and the indicator for door ajar warning.
With a decent mileage and powerful diesel engine, Nissan Evalia competes against Maruti Ertiga and Chevrolet Enjoy. It may not be a very good looking MUV but on the practical front it does a fair job as a 7 seater van.
