Mercedes Benz S Class

Mercedes Benz S Class available in 1 variant

The S Class is one of the most luxurious saloons manufactured by Mercedes and the range was formally introduced in 1972 with W116 cars. For more than 50 years, the S Class in its various avatars, served as the flagship model for Mercedes. The company introduced many of its innovative technologies including the drivetrain configuration, cabin comfort features, and safety set-ups like seatbelt pretensioners in the S Class.

‘S Class’ (S Klasse) is used as an acronym for German term "Sonderklasse" that implies "special class" (as in "a class of its own"). Five generations of officially termed S Class have been marketed since 1972.

India has this huge, luxurious car in one diesel-driven and three petrol-driven variants with different engine sizes. The S Class is not the highest selling car by Mercedes but it has everything to reflect the DNA of this brand. It has a number of qualities that make it the best in the world.

Longer and larger than its predecessors, the new generation S Class comes with a blend of elegance and dynamism. The body of this swanky saloon looks neatly sculpted and is visually more compact than previous models. It has a prominent front grille with the three pointed star trinket standing upon its edge, reflecting the royal charm of this car. Angular headlights with LEDs suit the anatomy of this big car very well. The raked windscreen rises beautifully above the large yet shapely bonnet. Blending with the wheel arch and headlamps, the fender line also looks very trendy. At the rear trapezoidal tails lamps and a large bumper add to the beauty of S Class’ silhouette. When the car is spotted on the roads or in a parking lot, it does convey an air of supreme luxury.

Get into the cabin and you’ll be surrounded by an aura of refinement and sophistication. Every inch of materials used inside is of the highest quality. Mercedes Benz has worked on all fronts to ensure that the S Class gets is indeed a ‘special class’. From the grain of wood on dashboards and door trims to the feel and functionality of capped buttons & switches – each aspect of cabin’s design reflects splendour. It may also appear somewhat retro with the palette of curves and surfaces on the dashboard but the design has been worked upon with a fervour that helps it win big brownie points.  The steering wheel has those audio controls and still the design looks so uncluttered and sublime.

The S Class cabin has been designed for 4 adults and all seats can be adjusted in different ways to pamper the occupants. They offer unmatched comfort and high degree of support to upper & lower thighs, shoulder line and entire length of back. Thanks to a long wheelbase of 3165 mm, there is ample legroom. You can sit at the perfect height and with heating & cooling functionalities, the seats feel even plusher.

In India, the available S Class variants include:
  • S300 L with 2997 cc V6 cylinder Petrol engine; Power: 231 bhp, Torque 28.7 kgm
  • S350 L with 3498 cc V6 cylinder Petrol engine; Power: 272 bhp, Torque:35.1 kgm

The 2014 S-Class was also chosen as the Best New Prestige Car (in $75,000 + cost category) by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada. At 2013 Guangzhou Auto Show it was named ‘2014 China Car of the Year’. And it continues to be one of the most popular luxury sedans around the world.

Loaded with technology and every possible comfort on four wheels, Mercedes S Class deserves to be called the best car in the world. It is a continual success story for the company and we will soon see another facelifted, upgraded model in India.
