Maruti Suzuki WagonR is an Indian version of Suzuki WagonR. In India it is manufactured and sold by its Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki. It was first launched in India in the year 1999. Its launch was said to be quiet ill-timed and one of the biggest failure of Maruti Suzuki. Its boxy design was a bit boring but soon it took up and became a best seller in the country, all thanks to it being a Maruti, one of the most reliable and cheap to maintain car.
Its tall look and design was a straight answer to the era’s bestseller Santro and the already established Matiz and created its own niche in the hatchback segment. Today its fan following includes young professionals and small middle class families to name a few. Since its launch it has sold more than 12 lakh cars.
Initially the wagonR was launched in three variants and has till date got 4 upgrades to keep it fresh in the market. The first upgrade was in the year 2003, second in 2006, third in 2010 and the latest is in January 2013.
The unusually tall boy design car comes with a short bonnet and vertical hatchback which provides it an increased space. The latest upgraded version comes with an improved interior and for the first time has a sophisticated and premium look. The dashboard has got a dual tone colour scheme- beige on the upper half and black in the bottom which looks better then Alto and A-star.

The side look of the car still looks like the previous WagonR versions. The 14 inch wheels in the top model with full wheel covers enhances the side view of this vehicle. The rear of the car now looks more like a conventional hatchback.
Standing true to its reliability on low maintenance cost the cars friction reducing technology is delivering high fuel efficiency with 8% savings in the fuel than the older version and promises to deliver the mileage of 20.51kmpl on petrol and 26.6kmpl on CNG. The engine and fuel options include Petrol, Petrol+CNG and Petrol+LPG.
The face lifted WagonR is loaded with 998cc 3-cylinder petrol motor that gives out maximum power of 68 Ps at 6200 rpm. It generates a maximum torque of 90 Nm at 3500 rpm. WagonR green gives 59 Ps of top power at 6200 rpm and peak torque of 77 Nm at 3500 rpm.
