In 2009, Suzuki launched a mid-sized sedan, Kizashi in the US market. In 2011, the same vehicle was launched in India by Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Suzuki’s Indian subsidiary. The idea of its launch in India was to uplift the brand value of Maruti to the luxury brand segment and rub its shoulders with the likes of Honda Accord, Toyota Camry etc. But, to the dismay of Maruti the car never took up and was able to sell only few hundred cars in the initial few months of the launch.
When it comes to high end vehicles, especially the interiors, Maruti has always been lagging behind its competitors. But, the new Kizashi is definitely equipped with features and style enough to bring it to that segment. The interior seems to be well equipped with luxurious and advanced features. The three spoke steering wheel comes mounted with controls for the audio system and also includes sports-car styled shift paddles for continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The dashboard sports a latest audio system with 7 speakers and CD/MP3 player along with integrated bluetooth with audio streaming and wireless mobile phone integration. Other features in the dashboard are the instrument panel, AC vents and storage boxes.
In terms of safety, Kizashi has two front airbags, a side airbag for each front seat, left and right curtain airbags and anti pinch windows. The car also has Electronic Stability program (ESP) with ABS and EBD that prevents wheel spin and skids by applying control to the engine and brakes when necessary.
The programmable dual zone climate control helps the AC to adjust temperature according to the direction of the sunlight. The front passenger and the driver also have the convenience of choosing different temperature independently. The rear AC vents adds to the comfort for rear passengers. In terms of spacing, Kizashi has spacious headroom and legroom. One of the most premium features of the car is the 10 way adjustable driver’s power seat with customized memory settings that instantly helps restore the favourite position after someone else has driven the car.
The overall length of Kizashi is 4650mm, width is 1820mm and the height is 1490mm. In the exterior, the first thing that will catch up your attention is the familiar grille and the long pair of headlights which immediately reminds of SX4. Though, the three dimensional mesh design and smoked look gives it a bold and powerful statement. From the side, the new 17 inches aluminium alloy wheel gives it a dynamic and sporty look. The door handle bars painted in body colour adds to the beauty of the car while the twin exhausts exit through triangular chrome surrounds, displays a lot of character. The tail lamps are bigger in the rear and has brake light, rear parking assist and turn indicators.
The Kizashi comes with a powerful 2.4L petrol engine, four cylinders, 16 valves and DOHC design. It can generate maximum power of 178PS @6500 rpm and 230NM @4000 rpm. It has two gearbox options: a six-speed manual and a CVT automatic. The car can deliver 7.9kmpl in the city conditions while on the highways it can deliver 12.2kmpl.
