Xylo is a Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) designed and developed by auto major Mahindra & Mahindra. The project was initially codenamed as Ingenio and was launched in India in the year 2009. An updated version of the Vehicle was launched in 2012.
Ever since its launch Xulo has been very popular and has won several awards like ET Zigwheels Award, Overdrive CNBC TV18 Award, NDTV Car & Bike Award, Master Brand 2012 Award, Golden Steering Wheel Variant of the Year 2012 Award, BBC Topgear Family Car of the Year Award and several more to count. The main competitors of the vehicle are Toyota Innova, Chevrolet Tavera.
Now moving forward, Mahindra Xylo is equipped with 3 different engines along its different variants. The D2 and D4 variants comes with mDICRDe diesel engine which can deliver maximum power of 95 BHP @3600 rpm and maximum torque of 220 NM @1400-2600 rpm. The E4 and E8 variants are equipped with mEagle diesel engine which can deliver maximum power of 112 BHP @3800 rpm and maximum torque of 260 NM @1800-2200 rpm while the E9 variant is equipped with mHawk diesel engine and can deliver maximum power of 120 BHP @4000 rpm and torque of 280 BHP @2400-2800 rpm. The vehicle is packed with 5 speed manual transmission with 4 cylinders and common rail direct engine fuel supply system. The mDICRDe and mEagle engine can deliver fuel efficiency of 14.95 kmpl where as the mHawk engine can deliver fuel efficiency of 13 kmpl.
When it comes to the look Mahindra has tried its best to give an appealing look to the vehicle. The front has an aggressive looking radiator grille along with chrome slots and stylish bumpers with airdams. The body graphics gives a sporty look to the vehicle. The turn indicators and the headlights catch the viewer’s attention immediately that gives an extremely clear view in the night and while taking a turn. From the side the vehicle has a striking body coloured door handles and outdoor rear view mirrors. In the rear, the vehicle has a bit rounded look. It has an exhaust pipe and the ski racks that give an exciting look to the Xylo. The rear also has roof rail, rear spoiler and door-step with mud flaps. The length of Mahindra Xylo is 4520 mm, width is 1850 mm and the height is 1850 mm.
Move inside and you will know that Mahindra has done a great job. The seats of Xylo offer an utmost experience. The front seats are like flatbeds and have sufficient legroom that makes the passenger comfortable even in long journeys. The driver’s seat height can be adjusted as per the convenience. The vehicle has a power steering wheel that can be tilted as per the convenience of the driver. The Mahindra Xylo is also equipped with features like voice command technology, blue drive system, cruise control and audio control mounted steering wheel. There is an illuminated keyhole ring that helps in locating the keyhole even in dark conditions. Other excellent features of the vehicle include foldable flight trays behind the front seats, individual reading lamps, puddle lamps on the door, independent AC vents and laptop & mobile charging points. In terms of utility spaces the vehicle has spacefor CDs and magazines in the centre console.
No vehicle is complete until it is well equipped with safety features and Xylo scores fairly in it. The Mahindra Xylo is equipped with seat belts, dual SRS Airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System with EBD, Intellipark reverse assist and an engine immoboliser that immediately shuts off the fuel supply to the engine in case it detects any inappropriate key. The vehicle also has a warning system that alerts other vehicles in case of breakdown. Other safety features include tubeless tyres that do not deflate suddenly in case of puncture, rear wash & wipers, rear defogger, front & rear fog lamps.
Overall, Mahindra Xylo is one of the best vehicles in its segment and its comfort level, style and muscular look makes it fit for both the long journeys as well as the city rides.
