Mahindra and Mahindra TUV300 Plus

Mahindra and Mahindra TUV300 Plus available in 3 variants

Launched with some changes in addition to extra cabin space, the Mahindra TUV300 Plus is evidently targeted towards the commercial sector. This new version of TUV300 is available only in three versions – the P4, P6 and P8. The vehicle is based on 3rd generation ladder frame chassis that is also used in Mahindra Scorpio.

The engine powering the TUV300 Plus is the 2.2 litre, 4 cylinder mHawk diesel unit that generates 120 bhp at 4000 rpm and 280 Nm at 1800 -2800 rpm. It is mated to 6 speed manual transmission.

All three trims have Mahindra’s Micro Hybrid Technology with brake energy regeneration and ECO Mode. The vehicle’s air-conditioning system also gets the ECO mode.

This one is not a sub 4 metre car. The new Plus model of Mahindra TUV300 has a length of 4400 mm as against the 3995 mm of the original model. Its width is the same at 1835 mm and the height has been reduced from 1839 mm to 1812 mm. The wheelbase of this 9 seater version of TUV300 is also the same at 2680 mm. The boot space stands at 696 litres and the when the seats are folded it goes up to 888 litres. The P8 trim gets foldable second row seats.

Since there are no differences in design, you will find the same front fascia on the Mahindra TUV300 Plus as the smaller version has. There is a prominent 5-slat grille bordered by big, sweptback headlamps that have generous garnish of chrome. These headlamps have been slightly tweaked for a different look from the regular model. The front bumper that has also been touched again for few changes houses a rectangular air dam and there are smaller fog lamps bordered by silver inserts. There is some trimming for the bumper lip.

The Mahindra TUV300 Plus like its sibling has chunky wing mirrors without indicator lights. The P8 trim rides on 16 inch 5 spoke alloy wheels with 215/70 section tyres. The P4 gets 16 inch steel wheels and the P6 has same 16 inch steel wheels with hubcaps. The TUV300 Plus does not get roofrails and instead of blackened D pillar as in the original version, it has body coloured ones.

Door handles are thick to hold and the keyholes are provided only on the driver’s door and the tailgate. Side steps are provided for ease of ingress and they feel solid. The roof this ‘Tough Utility Vehicle’ (TUV) is ribbed for more rigidity. A twirling radio antenna is provided at the back At the rear you will see a new set of wrap around squarish tail lamps. There is a small roof mounted spoiler and the tailgate mounted, covered spare wheel.

In its cabin the new Mahindra TUV300 Plus gets a dual tone dashboard and upholstery in black and beige. The fit and finish are pleasing. Ergonomics also feel fine. A 7.0 inch touchscreen infotainment system occupies the centre fascia and it has features for navigation, voice messaging and Bluesense App.

The 3-spoke steering wheel has audio control and Bluetooth telephony buttons. And the chrome lined twin dial instrument clusters have white back lighting. MID for TUV300 and TUV300 Plus is shared with the Scorpio but the backlight colour is different.

The seats have faux-leather covers and cushioning is on firmer side. Side height adjuster is available only with the top variant. The travel range however is not very impressive. Short people may have problems with upfront visibility.

For storage there are door pockets that can hold 1 litre bottles and the glove box is also fairly accommodating – it is also illuminated. There is another can/bottle holder and a couple of extra cubby holed sculpted between the front seats.

In the second row of seats, the legroom is good but the same cannot be said of thigh support. Seat back is also thin probably to make some more room in the third row of split seats. The power window buttons are positioned between the front seats. The side seat occupants have headrests but there is none in the middle. The cushioning is firm for headrests as also the door armrests. And there is no central armrest in this model too.

As in the front, the rear doors also have pockets to keep 1 litre bottles and space to hold one or two small items. You can also push a small bag or two beneath the second row seats. There are grab handles on the doors but no coat hooks. The rear lamp has been positioned well and it can offer illumination for both 2nd and 3rd row seat occupants.

In the regular TUV300 model, there are two side facing seats in the last row but they are designed to accommodate only two people. In the TUV300 Plus, these seats have a slightly longer and meant for four passengers in this part of the cabin. That takes the total seating capacity to 9 even though the facing seats are good only for children.

Safety elements include driver and passenger side airbags, and ABS with EBD but these are offered only with P6 and P8 trims. The ISOFIX child seat anchors that are provided in the regular TUV300 are not even on option in TUV300 Plus.

You get to choose your TUV300 Plus from five body colour choices - Majestic Silver, Bold Black, Dynamo Red, Molten Orange and Glacier White.

The TUV300 Plus is not a sub 4 meter car and it is therefore priced higher than the regular TUV300. The variant wise price comparison in terms of ex-showroom price for the two models is:
