Eon is a 5-door hatchback by South Korean auto maker Hyundai. The model was designed jointly by Hyundai R&D centers in Namyang, South Korea and Hyderabad. The car was launched in October 2011 and is aimed at the first time car buyers in India. The car faces major competition with the hot-selling Mauti Suzuki Alto.
The Hyundai Eon comes with 0.8 L MPi SOHC 9 valves 3 cylinders engine. It has a displacement of 814 cc. The vehicle has 5-speed manual transmission and can churn out maximum power of 56 PS @5500 rpm and maximum torque of 7.6 kg.m @4000 rpm. The vehicle has McPherson strut with Coil Spring & Anti-Roll Bar suspension in the front and Torsion Beam Axle with Coil Spring in the rear. The vehicle has a disc brake in the front and drum brake in the rear. The Hyundai Eon ARAI mileage is 21.1 kmpl for petrol.
In terms of exterior, Eon has got a very dynamic and stylish look. In the front, the 2-tone chrome radiator grille looks cool while the large air intake imparts a sporty look to the vehicle besides maximizing engine and radiator cooling efficiency. The swept back headlamps impart a class to the car. The front also has fog lamps. The side character lines, the sloping roofline and micro roof antenna make the car look sportier. The side view also has a dual tone outside rear view mirror and body coloured life type door handle goes well with the overall design of the car. The 8-spoke full wheel cover adds to the aesthetics of 13" steel wheel. In the rear the bumper gives a bold feeling. It has a high mounted LED stop lamp built into the roof-mounted rear spoiler, elegant rear combination lamps designed to harmonize with the overall fluidic sculpture design language and extra-large reflectors that maximizes visibility and appeal.
When it comes to the interior, Hyundai Eon comes with several stylistic and conventional features. The interior has 2 tone brown and beige colour. The seats have been designed ergonomically that provides sufficient back and thigh support. The dashboard sports a storage space that can be used to keep small articles like keys & mobiles etc. and a pedestal space in the centre to place accessories or idols. The curvy centre console comes with metallic highlights that impart style and houses various ergonomically placed controls like a front heater core, a 4-speed blower driven by a powerful motor, ac and an easy-to-use rotary-type controls. The 3 spoke steering wheel accentuated with metallic inserts looks good and can be tilted and adjusted as per the driver’s convenience. Other features include floor console storage tray, map pocket with bottle holder in the front door, power windows, 2 DIN Radio+CD+MP3 Audio, 2 front door speakers, aux-in-port, USB port, gear shift indicator, graphic band fuel gauge, low fuel warning, dual trip meter etc.
When it comes to safety, the car has a square shaped radiator support panel, reinforced floor panel and door side impact beams that provide connection support to counter the huge forces generated on impact. Other safety features include front & rear seat belts, child safety rear door locks, engine immobilizer, inside rear view mirror and central locking. Key less entry, front fog lamps and driver airbag are available only in the Sportz variant.
Overall, its price makes it a good option but safety features and engine sound are few of the negative factors in the vehicle.
