CNBC Overdrive awarded the Fiat Linea-‘Midsize Car of the year’ in 2009. Later in 2010, it was awarded ‘Car of the year’ by UTVi Autocar and the ‘Midsize Car of the year’ by NDTV Profit. The very fact that Linea has been time and again hailed by the car and automobile experts proves that this is no ordinary vehicle; in fact it’s here to stay and delight the car enthusiasts for a long time to come.
The Fiat Linea was brought to the Indian market in 2009 and since then it has been introduced in a lot of interesting variants but one of the smartest moves from these Italians has been the launching of the Fiat Linea T-Jet in the year 2010.
Now, the Fiat Linea T-Jet engine is a powerful 1368cc 16 valve petrol engine that churns out a power of 114 PS @ 5000 rpm and a torque of 207 Nm @ 2200 rpm and comes loaded with a 5 speed manual transmission. The T-Jet is available in three variants:
• Linea T-Jet Active P Fire Control
• Linea T-Jet Dynamic Fire Control and
• Linea T-Jet Emotion Fire Control
The fuel tank capacity of the T-Jet is 45 litres and as per Fiat’s claims, this vehicle is capable of efficiently delivering a mileage of 15.7 kms/litre.
The Fiat Linea T-Jet is priced in between 7.69 lakhs and 8.94 lakhs (Ex showroom price- Delhi) and is available in five elegant colours: Oceanic Blue, Tuscan White, Minimal Grey, Hip Hop Black and Pearl White.
In terms of styling, the Linea T-Jet is not really different from the normal Linea. The chrome radiator grille, body coloured exterior door handles, mirrors and the dual parabola headlamps all make for interesting styling. The alloy wheels are however only available in the Dynamic and Emotion segments. Automatic rain sensing wipers (that turn on automatically as and when rain is felt on the windscreen and then turn off when the rain stops) and automatic headlamps (that can turn on and off automatically based on outside light conditions) are standard and impressive features on all the models.
On the inside, the comfortable and spacious, dual toned Linea cabin is done up luxuriously in premium Italian leather trimmed upholstery. It has a fully integrated music system with CD, MP3 and FM player with six speakers and a remote control. A smart engineering move is evident with the implementation of the “Blue & Me” technology. With the assistance of the “Blue & Me”, the Linea ensures a hassle free drive for its passengers, especially if the driver is driving alone, because this is a voice command activation technology and has steering wheel controls for changing music, taking calls and having text messages read aloud. These features are however not available on all variants.
There is also a “My Car” system in the Fiat Linea T-Jet which is a set of customisable settings for your car to choose from. One can change the intensity of the colour display, the date and clock setting, external temperature indicator, alarm buzzer volume and many others.
Endowed with early crash sensors, dual stage front airbags and an Anti Lock Braking System (ABS- available in Dynamic and Emotion variants), this car doesn’t let you down when it comes to safety features. With a high tensile steel frame and a strong body, this sedan offers protection from jabs and jolts of the traffic stricken roads of today’s times.
Thus the added T-Jet engine with the body, styling and sophistication of the Fiat Linea makes it nothing short of a brilliantly crafted car. Packed with power and performance, the Linea T-Jet is certainly a fearless challenger to its competitors.
