The Sail U-VA is a hatchback from the house of General Motors and is available in both diesel and petrol versions. Today we take a look at the Chevrolet Sail U-VA Diesel LS variant which is a grade higher than the Diesel PS. It has the 4 cylinder, 1248 cc engine with a 5 speed manual transmission that gives out a power of 77 Bhp and a torque of 20.90 Kgm. The top speed for this one is at around 165 kms/hour.
Even though the U-VA has nothing extraordinary about its design, yet it manages to portray a decent picture with its looks. As in the U-VA PS, the signature golden Chevrolet bow-tie graces the chrome decorated dual port front grille of this model too. The headlamps have been designed in a ‘Hawk wing’ style and go well with the overall shape of the car. The door handles, ORVMs (outside rear view mirrors) and the bumpers at both front and back are body coloured. The wheels come with full wheel covers and a roof antenna has also been implanted in this model.
The car cabin looks pleasing in dual tone coffee beige interiors done up in fabric upholstery. The three spoke power steering wheel (with tilt function) comes leather wrapped but the same is missed out on the gear shift knob. An amber coloured light produces a warm and comforting ambience and enables illumination inside the vehicle. Storage compartments such as a deep glove box, front seat back pockets, cup holders in front console and map pockets in the front door have been provided. The inside of the car has also been given chrome touches on the inside door handles and the parking brake button.
When it comes to the comfort and convenience aspect of the Sail U-VA LS, the car has been abundantly blessed. The windows all around are powered and so the ORVMs (outside rear view mirrors). A lamp for better illumination has been provided in the luggage compartment. To add to the comfort of the driver and the passenger, the headrests in the front are height adjustable.
The tachometer is digital in this model and you also get a central door locking system. The storage space can be increased since there is a provision for 60:40 split folding of the rear seat. The fuel filler compartment and the tailgate release are remote controlled. An air conditioner is also found in the car cabin. Few other minor but useful additions include a rear parcel shelf, a cigar lighter, an ash tray and a sunvisor with vanity mirror on the co- driver’s side.
There are however a few downers also which bring down the quality of this variant. Firstly, there is no audio system installed. A 12 V power socket and a digital clock could also have been great additions on the model.
Without an ABS (Anti Lock Brake System), a vehicle in this segment drops a bit in terms of safety precautions since an ABS seems like a mandatory feature, given the rash road conditions these days. However, the Chevrolet Sail U-VA LS does come equipped with an engine immobilizer, a high mount stop lamp at the rear, dual horns and an airbag to protect the driver from any sudden impact of a collision. Side beams have also been placed on both the front and back doors, to control impact on the sides. A driver seat belt reminder along with a key in reminder has also been implemented. To ensure child safety, door locks on the rear seats have been provided.
The Chevrolet Sail U-VA Diesel LS is priced at Rs 5.76 lakhs (Ex- showroom price- Delhi) and comes forth as a reliable and practical vehicle. But if styling and appeal is what you’re looking for, then there are better options available in the market than this one.
