A 4 cylinder, 1199 cc engine is what we find on the Chevrolet Sail U-VA PS (petrol version) combined with a 5 speed manual transmission. As per the company’s claims, this vehicle manages to deliver an excellent mileage of 18.2 kms/litre. The maximum power achieved is 86 PS @ 6000 rpm and maximum torque achieved is 113 Nm @ 5000 rpm. Average in terms of styling and appeal, this car is however excellent in terms of its cabin spaciousness and proves to be fairly okay drive.
The overall design and shape of the Chevrolet Sail U-VA is simple; nothing overtly extraordinary. Also, the PS being the base variant comes with its own limitations such as no alloy wheels or roof antenna. The body coloured ORVMs (outside rear view mirrors) and door handles are also missing. The body coloured bumpers in the front and rear do, however manage to find their way onto the car. The front radiator grille is chrome decked and dually split. On top of it, the golden Chevrolet bowtie finds its spot. The ‘hawk wing’ headlamps look neat to go with the rest of the front.
A better plastic quality inside the car cabin would have definitely upgraded the style quotient of the Sail U-VA. Right now it looks very plebeian, since this variant even lacks the little chrome touches here and there, such as on the door handles and the parking brake button. The inside is otherwise done up in dual tones of coffee beige colours and fabric upholstery. The standard storage spaces have been all provided, for example: a high volume glove box, map pockets on the front door and pockets on the back of the front seats. An amber coloured illumination is a good option inside the cabin.
The comfort features of this variant include having a power steering wheel with tilt function. This helps in easy manoeuvring and control of the car. The windows in the front are powered but sadly, same is not the case for the windows in the rear. Adding to the comfort of the driver, there are height adjustable headrests and a sunvisor with ticket holder pockets. A 12 V power outlet has been provided in U-VA PS and there is also a separate lamp for the luggage compartment. There is an air conditioner in this vehicle and a digital tachometer is also installed.
This vehicle falls in the brackets of only the most necessary and basic safety norms. Seat belts have been provided and a reminder has also been put in if in case, the driver forgets to put on the same. There is a centrally located high mounted stop lamp at the rear to improve visibility for the cars following the U-VA PS. The variant also comes equipped with an engine immobilizer, safe cage and dual horns. Protection beams have been put on the sides to control impact of any collisions from the sides. Child safety is a must and to ensure the same, child protection door locks have been put on the rear seat.
The Chevrolet Sail U-VA PS petrol version has been priced at Rs 4.29 lakhs (Ex- showroom price, Delhi). A fairly good choice for a practical car!
