General Motors wants some hold in all segments of the market and this is why it has launched the Sail in two broad categories – the hatchback as also the sedan avatar. Further, you can choose a petrol or diesel car and there are 4 options to select from.
So that makes for a lot of choice.
Here’s an account of top end variant for Sail 1.2 (sedan) in petrol league:
This being the top end model, there has to be some significant upgrade from base and mid segment variants. It comes in the form of a set of 4 alloy wheels as against the steel wheels fitted in Sail 1.2 PS and LS. With these light weight alloy wheels the sedan’s road grip and fuel efficiency is further improved. Another exclusive feature in this top-of-the -league variant is a set of fog lamps. Other features for external styling and design are same as in Sail 1.2 LS with ABS.
The dual tone interiors in coffee beige hues and fabric upholstery give this car a semblance of Sail U-VA’s cabin. All features for cabin design – such as amber coloured interior illumination, chrome on door handles and hand brake button, leather wrapped around steering wheel, cubby holes for storage – are the same as in Sail 1.2 LS ABS. The additional styling element that the top end variant with ABS gets is the leather covering on the gear knob. A minor touch for aesthetics has therefore made for some degree of product differentiation.
Chevrolet has equipped Sail 1.2 LT ABS with few more features than the mid segment variant with ABS. So along with that integrated music system, Bluetooth and phone pairing facilities, this one also has the convenience of a remote keyless entry. You also get a defogger for the rear glass. A cigarette lighter has been provided. Like the 1.2 LS ABS variant, all windows are powered in here too and the ORVMs are also electrically adjustable.
Sail 1.2 LT ABS is the top end variant with an important safety feature – the Anti lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution. Yes, it also comes with some added features – an air bag for the co-driver and front seatbelts with pretensioner. All other attributes for a safe and secure ride are same as in other models of this saloon.
Priced at Rs 6.45 lakhs (ex showroom price Delhi), this saloon is good for its ride quality for those who prefer to be driven around. Handling may not be up to everyone’s liking.
