Chevrolet Sail 1.3 saloon is also available for diesel car buyers and there are four variants to choose from. It runs on 1248 cc 4 cylinder engine mated to 5 speed manual gearbox. This is the same as the one used in Sail U-VA diesel.
Let’s take a view of the features in the base variant:
The conventional designing of Sail 1.3 sedan is quite similar to that of its hatchback model, Sail U-VA. The front seems nice with swept back ‘hawk-wing’ shaped headlights and a prominent stroke on the bonnet. Well sculpted bumpers for both front and rear have been done in matching body colour. And for colour options you have a choice between Velvet Red, Caviar Black, Linen Beige, Misty Lake, Summit White, Switchblade Silver, and Sand Drift Grey.
Chevrolet bowtie batch sits on the dual port front grille. There is a chrome finish for the radiator grille. With a length of 4249 mm, Chevrolet Sail 1.3 PS is a genuine sedan and does not have the condensed look of sub 4 metre ‘saloons’.
Sail 1.3 PS interiors are similar to U-VA’s interiors. Plastic quality is somewhat plebeian and coffee beige colour although subtle may not be to everyone’s liking. The protruding centre console has a touch of metallic paint and this looks nice. Seat back cushions are quite soft in Sail 1.3 PS sedan and this adds to comfort of seating. There are cup holders in front console and door map pockets in front doors. Amber hued illumination for instrument panel goes well with the dual tone interiors. At the back, there is ample legroom and seating space for three adults.
The base variant of Sail 1.3 diesel saloon has elementary features for comfort and convenience. It has a rake adjustable power steering and electronically adjustable ORVMs. The headrests for the front seats can be adjusted for height. Powered windows have only been provided for the front. There is a digital tachometer on the instrument panel. Rear view mirror can be adjusted for reflections during day and night. Passenger side sunvisor is equipped with a vanity mirror.
At the rear the seat has integrated headrests and foldable armrests with cup holders. A lamp has also been provided for the boot that in turn has a capacity of 370 litres. The fuel lid and trunk door can be opened remotely from the cabin. An ashtray is also provided in this base variant.
There is a set of basic safety elements in Sail 1.3 PS. Chevrolet calls the frame of Sail a ‘safe cage body structure’. And inside the cabin, there is three point ELR (emergency locking retractor) for seat belts on front seats. Other safety features include engine immobilizer and child protection door locks at back.
Driver seat belt reminder, key in reminder and door ajar indicator lamp are also there on the instrument panel. Steering wheel has dual horns.
This diesel sedan carries a price tag of Rs 6.29 lakhs and it has a fuel efficiency of 12.9 kms/litre in the city and 22.1 kms/litre on highways. Recommended if you prefer a good ride quality in a spacious cabin!
