To increase its share in the Indian hatch market, General Motors decided to launch Chevrolet Beat in a diesel avatar despite the presence of a number of competitors. However, the Beat came with an engine smaller than used in more accepted Maruti Swift.1.0 XSDE of Beat diesel is only a 936 cc engine with 3 cylinders in-line TCDi but with good fuel efficiency and the car’s decent ride quality, Chevrolet Beat is a fairly popular hatch.
Let us look at the features of its top variant: 1.0 LT
In addition to the principal design elements that adorn Beat 1.0 LS, this variant comes with few more features to give it a more refined look. Outside rear view mirrors (ORVMs) and door handles have been treated in body colour. Satin silver rails sit on the roof. On the sides, there is a styling strip for the B pillar. The rear spoiler is also in body colour unlike the black coloured one in base and mid segment model. With these changes, Beat 1.0 LT does look more mature than its minor siblings.
Inside the cabin there is a little more work on the aesthetics for this higher end model. High gloss silver finish accentuates the look of instrument panel and doors. Icy blue illumination for the instrument panel sections and around the buttons, suit the funky design theme of dashboard. Front door map pockets also get a hint of silver. Of course the extra cost that you pay for this variant brings you an integrated music system with FM/AM radio, CD player and AUX-in + USB ports. There are 2 speakers at the front and 2 at the back.
Unlike the manual HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) system in entry level and mid segment variants, Beat 1.0 LT gets a climate control feature with its air conditioner and heater – this naturally adds to comfort inside the cabin. The manufacturer has also added a wash, wipe and defogger system for the rear glass. Steering wheel can be adjusted for tilt and all four windows are powered. Supplementing the basic comfort features distributed in all variants, these additional attributes in Beat 1.0 LT make it a more comfortable car.
Beat 1.0 LT gets a front fog lamp as the additional safety feature along with the range of standard elements for a safe ride. The latter subsumes reminders for driver seat belt, low fuel level & a door left open as also the day/night rear view mirror.
Beat 1.0 LT Diesel is priced at Rs 5.48 lakhs (ex showroom Delhi price). And with a combination of good fuel efficiency, decent ride quality and a set of aesthetic and functional features, it is a nice option if you need a small, diesel hatch for daily commuting.
