The 7 series has always been a strong contender from the BMW family and through the years, the German automaker did not play much with its design & mechanicals. But the car recently got a mid-life makeover and looks subtly improved in terms of looks while also getting some new equipment.
Here’s an account of features in the 750Li – the 7 series variant that is driven on 4395 cc V8 engine churning out 450 bhp of power and 66.3 kgm of torque.
With more detailing, modified fog lamps, a more upright front chrome grille and optional adaptive full LED headlights, the 750Li impresses its onlookers at very first glance. Crease lines on the flanks give the bonnet a brawny look. The subtly sloping rooflines and a sleek side profile also add to the elegance of design for the saloon. This trim runs on 19 inch light alloy wheels with 245/45(F) and 275/75 (R) tyres. At the rear the tail lamps with LED strips and dynamic brake lights add to the elegance of its BMW looks. The twin trapezoidal exhaust with chrome embellishers is smartly integrated with the rear bumper.
Thanks to a wheelbase of 3210mm, the 750Li has a spacious cabin with plenty of legroom on all seats. The two tone interior as in all BMW has been ergonomically crafted with important controls skewed towards the driver. With its textures and layers, the dashboard looks fantastic. On the instrument console, the illumination changes as per the mode in which you are driving your car. The 750Li largely being a saloon for the chauffeur driven has an elaborate entertainment system with two 9.2 inch high resolution screens at the rear. It is managed with an iDrive controller on the centre armrest. There’s CD/DVD changer, gaming console and music. USB and Aux ports are provided for connectivity of your devices.
The heated and cooled seats of 750Li offer excellent thigh and lumbar support. Armrests are provided on all doors, in front centre and at rear seat centre. Audio controls in front mount the steering wheel. Door pockets and cup holders on central console serve as spaces for storing knick knacks. For uniform cooling of the cabin there is two-zone climate control with separate knobs for rear AC and heater vents. With electric sunblinds for rear windows the cabin insulation increases for further comfort. The servotronic power steering with a chunky feel is wrapped in leather and can be adjusted for rake and reach. Keyless entry, central locking, smart keyless ignition, parking assist and automatic wipers are other standard comfort & convenience features.
Eight air bags including head and side bags for driver & front passenger have been fitted in the 750Li. The saloon has anti lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist. Electrical stability programme, dynamic stability control and traction control are ensured by BMW in the 7 series. The safety elements in this trim also include impact beams and collapsible steering system. Alarm system and engine immobilizer are the standard anti theft features. Door ajar warning, seat belt warning, high engine temperature warning indicators are there on the instrument console.
This mid segment trim of the 7 series costs Rs 1.05 crore (ex showroom price Delhi). It has a fuel economy of 4 to 7km/litre. A super saloon that loudly speaks of luxury, the 750Li is rarely seen on roads but when it arrives, it certainly gets heads turning.
