BMW 6 Series

BMW 6 Series available in 1 variant

The 6 Series is a range of luxury grand tourers manufactured by BMW. First in this line-up was the E24 that was derived from the first generation 7 Series, the BMW E23. The car was brought out in 1976 as a replacement for the 3.0CS & 3.0CSi (E9).
In 2003, the German automaker launched the all new E63/E64 that was available as a coupé and convertible and was based on the chassis of the E60 5 Series sedan.
Models that reached the markets were the BMW 645Ci (later replaced with the 650i) and the 630i. The third generation F12 and F13 6 series range was released in 2011 for the 2012 model year – it shared a platform and some motors with the 7 Series and 5 Series, and was introduced with a four-door coupé style.
This luxury car came to India in 2006 with petrol engine. We had the 650i in its convertible and coupe avatars and also the higher end trims M6 coupe and convertible. Later, in 2012 BMW also launched the diesel powered 640d in the Indian market.
As a luxury two door, two plus seater, the 6 series is not a picture of practicality but like other super cars especially from its own family, it has an excellent blend of luxury, class and driving dynamics. Its slender and long silhouette, sharply styled headlamps, the super-wide ‘V’ lines on the hood and the elegant skinning make for an immaculate combination of curves and surfaces.
The dimensions of BMW 6 series seem huge when you see it from sides. At the rear its look is adorned with extended tail lamps, chrome exhaust tip and layered surfaces.
Get inside to be greeted by the two tone cabin that is extremely well built and has all regular features for an enjoyable time behind the wheels. Some of these comprise the iDrive, paddle shifts and adjustable driver modes. Quality of materials is top notch and comfort on the seats is also exceptionally good. The control buttons have a soft, damped feel. You may drive with the soft top up or down, cruising in this BMW convertible is always a pleasure (provided you have the right roads to enjoy the ride).
The Coupe and Gran Coupe variants too have a spot-on styling. Well sculpted and chic with their aero dynamic profile, they are some of the best German cars ever. Thanks to wheelbase 113mm longer than the Coupe, the Gran Coupe accommodates a pair of rear doors and that makes for larger rear cabin seats too. The only complaint here can be about the small door openings and the trailing edge of the frameless window that extends well out from the door – this makes getting inside a little difficult. Taller passengers do not get ample headroom due to the sloping roofline but the seats once again are wonderfully comfortable.
At the front the layered dashboard has those meticulously planned controls and switches. The three spoke steering wheel looks elegant and has a sporty feel. It’s just the beige carpeting that can dirty in Indian weather conditions. On the whole though, the interiors are very well designed and ooze luxury all over. Needless to say, there are plenty of comfort features to spoil you. Climate control, electrically adjustable seats, music system, and parking sensors do their job pretty well. There are 6 air bags and systems like ABS, Electronic Stability Program and Traction Control for high levels of safety.
The 650i Coupe and Convertible are powered by a 4.4-litre turbo V8 petrol engine that gives out 407 bhp and has a torque of 61.2 kgm. The engine is mated to 8 speed automatic gearbox. For the diesel driven Coupe and Gran Coupe (640d) it’s a 2993cc variable-geometry-turbo diesel motor with figures of 313 bhp (Coupe) and 303 (bhp). This engine has a torque of 64.2 kgm.
Do not think much about the fuel efficiency factor because the car is quite thirsty. The petrol trims can go up to 4.4 km/litre in the city and 7.9 km/litre on the highways. And the 640d has fuel economy of 6.2 km/litre to 9.5 km/litre. That’s the most that you can get in a big luxury car.
When you are buying a BMW there’s always a wide array of colours to choose from and the options for 6 series include Titanium Silver, Deep Sea Blue, Alpine White, Vermillion Red, Space Gray, Havana, Onion Silver and Black Sapphire.
The price range for BMW 6 series is between Rs 79.9 lakhs to 99.6 lakhs for diesel and petrol variants (ex showroom price Delhi).
Among the accolades won by the 6 series is the 2011 Red Dot Award for product design and it was also the Winner of the Automotive Brand Contest in the same year. This BMW also received the ‘iF Design Award Gold’ for both Coupe and convertible trims in 2012.
Staggering performance and amazing open-top experience - the 6 series gives you all the thrills of a super car. Packed with luxury, refinement and class, this BMW may not be for everyday use but when you do bring it out on the roads, it is sure to turn heads.
