Chevrolet Enjoy - A visual Review

Chevrolet plans to launch the Enjoy, its new MPV on 9th May 2013. We at www.ecardlr.com got an opportunity to test drive Enjoy LTZ TCDi before its launch and decided to present to you a visual presentation of its key features for you. We hope this will help you better understand the car.

Chevrolet Enjoy Engine

Having presented majority of Chevrolet Enjoy features visually, how we wish there was a way to present our drive experience through pictures. However, let's see if words can do for Chevrolet engine what pictures have done for its features. We at www.ecardlr.com got to test drive the 1.3 Litre reverse engineered Fiat Multi jet plonked under Enjoys hood. Reverse engineered because a engine suitable for a front wheel drive car has been worked up and made it to supply power to Enjoy's rear wheels.

Starting with the good points; Engine noise is near zero and that's no exaggeration when compared to a Manza's and Vento diesel engine noise. We are sure Enjoy's engine would be even more silent than the Ertiga. Engine depict minimal lag, nor does it gives you the turbo kick whenever the turbo in this fixed geometry turbo charged diesel engine might be kicking in.  Power build up is quite smooth and the engine comes on its own above 1600 rpm, however, it does seem to run out of steam close to its peak rpm.

The 1.3 Litre engine depicts lots of vibration under 1200 rpm, the same gets transferred to the cabin and even the row 2 captain seat passenger can feel it. We however noticed this behaviour in gear 2 and 3 and mostly at lower RPM's. Low speed engine response is slow even though one does not feel the urge to down shift as the engine does respind to throttle inputs pretty eagerly.

This 1.3 litre engine is mated to a 5 speed manual gear box and the marriage between the two seems quite out of place, the chemistry between the engine and gear box is missing. Slotting gears though easy, however long stick makes it task. Gear box presents a good amount of hum at lower RPM (normally under 1200-1300 rpm), this hum does die out as the rpm needle starts to inch upwards.

We feel the GM has its work cut-out in the engine and gear box department and the sooner they do this the better it would be for them lest they might have another Beat situation here.

Enjoy does look like a bigger EECO and that's unfortunate for the car as such a close association might undermine the cars capability of becoming a family car. On road though the excitement from Eeco owners was quite evident thanks to the multiple looks they were giving to the Enjoy, two of them actually followed aus and gave teh car a good look from front back and side. WE got stopped by an owner of Eeco who when told that it will come with a diesel engine was quite excited. He was highly impressed with the space inside the car.

Whilst such a target group will definitely get numbers for Chevrolet, it will make any attempt of premium pricing futile. Our wish list on pricing front would be EECO CNG + 75000 for petrol and maybe 1.25 lacs more over EECO CNG, pricing expectations based on similar trims level comparison.

Hope GM or Chevrolet does not disappoint us.
