Maruti Ciaz Vs Honda City Vs Hyundai Verna Spec Co

Maruti is now all ready to take yet another shot at premium layer of sedan segment with its Ciaz sedan that will be launched in market next month. The specifications of Ciaz are already out; prompting us to pit this new Maruti against its rivals in this spec comparison review. So let’s see who wins and who loses in this spec fight featuring dimensional and performance altercations between these three big-wigs of Indian automobile industry.

Performance Virtue: Solid performance is definitely an important virtue that features quite high on priority list of a typical C-segment buyer. Unlike the hatchback and entry-level sedan where fuel-efficiency is of utmost concern, premium sedan segment buyers are more concerned for strong performing motor that will appease their driving senses more than wallet.

Maruti Ciaz will come with both petrol and diesel engine options that is quite par for the course. Petrol variant of Ciaz will come with 1.4-litre K-series engine that puts out 93 PS anf power and 130 Nm of torque. In comparison Honda City comes with bigger 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol power plant that produces 118 PS of max power and 145 Nm of max torque. However it is Hyundai’s Verna that trounces both Honda and Maruti with its class leading 122 PS and 158 Nm of max power and max torque respectively courtesy of its biggest 1.6-litre of gasoline engine. There is also smaller 1.4-litre Verna on offer that makes 106 PS and 138 Nm of power and torque respectively.

On diesel front too, there has no change in the hierarchical rank of these cars as Verna once again topping the list with 126 PS and 260 Nm of performance figures cough out by its 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder, CRDI diesel engine. In contrast, Honda City makes 100 PS and 200 Nm with its 1.5-litre oil burner while Maruti occupies the lowest rung with 90 PS and 200 Nm of power and torque respectively. So on losing out to rivals on engine spec front there is still hope for Maruti to perform better on the real-world condition. Over the years Maruti has excelled in shaving off extra kilos from their offering and upcoming Ciaz is no different. With little over a ton for petrol and 1105 kg for diesel, Maruti Ciaz is lightest vehicle in this lot. This not only helps the Maruti to neutralize the power advantage that its rivals have but also gives it an upper hand in mileage department. In fact Maruti Ciaz comes with the best-in-class mileage figures for both petrol and diesel variants. Company claims ARAI certified figures of 20.73 km/l and 26.21 km/l for petrol and diesel Ciaz respectively that is more than what Honda City and Hyundai Verna has on offer for customers.
