Mahindra TUV3oo AMT Road Test Review

Mahindra TUV3oo AMT has been attracting lot of attention from all quarters of life. We get behind the wheels and get you real substance behind this hype.

Mahindra TUV3oo AMT Road Test Review

Most of the bookings for Mahindra TUV 3oo account for automated manual transmission variant which in some aspect showing the changing nature of Indian automobile market with more and more people preferring automatic over manual transmission. And it comes No Surprise as admin cities in India is increasingly becoming crowded and automatic transmission can provide you kind of convenience you were always looking for. Mahindra TUV 3oo is unique in many aspects especially when we talk about its rugged design and style.

We have already covered each and every aspect of this butch machine in our earlier road test review and in this drive, we are going to focus primarily upon combination of
automated manual transmission (AMT) and 1.5-litre 3-cylinder diesel engine. Performance figures of this automated manual transmission variant has been rated 100 PS and 240 NM of max torque while the overall kerb weight of the car points the weighing scale at 1560 kg.

In city driving condition, TUV 3oo is quite confident machine which is capable of holding against the Rivals comfortably. The short gearing of the Mahindra also help the car to pull cleanly from the halt and this somewhere act as a boon for the city dwellers. There is absolutely no Turbo lag whatsoever that will be felt by the owners while driving this SUV in the city condition. Steering wheel of the car is also very light and surprisingly provides the feedback which is very communicative and tells you all the time what each wheel is up to.

Having said that, once you're out on highway and try to achieve something fast with this car problem starts coming to the front. The engine runs out of breath very quickly and this is a problem that most of the owners will face and perceive on the highway driving. If you are a sedate driver and not going to hustle around the things, big problem for you but if you want a ride that is Swift, fast, and want to make a dash to some place, this will not make a cut. We wish Mahindra has given some more power and torque to the car especially considering the height weight of this SUV.

Automated manual transmission is quite jerky especially in the city driving but you can get more control by selecting manual mode. Enabling the manual mode will give you more driving pleasure as you can select the gear up and down without getting any unnecessary fuss. All in all, transmission combination only works best in the city and out on the highway we are somewhat disappointed with this pairing.

The price of
TUV 3oo AMT starts at Rs 9.06 lakh for the base T6 + AMT variant and goes up to Rs 9.73 lakh for T8 AMT mHAWK model (ex-showroom, Delhi). Alto compared to other automated manual transmission, this pricing reflects the value for money. However when you compare the merits and demerits of this SUV with its contemporary competitors, we will find the difference in the way this proposition lags behind the competition. There are many chinks in the Armour of TUV3oo that Mahindra has to plug in in order to make this SUV up complete and Holistic package. A more powerful engine can do the trick as the high rate of the car makes even the 100 PS feel insufficient. We believe in the future Mahindra is planning to introduce new variants of this SUV that will come with more powerful engine and transmission package.
