Hyundai Tucson SUV Road test Review

Hyundai has launched Tucson in India with great hope of bridging the gap between Creta and Santa Fe. We get behind the wheel to get you the real picture.

Hyundai Tucson SUV Road Test Review

No matter how much the name Tucson sounds awkward, this new offering from Hyundai is looking to dominate the market with that sleek styling, feature rich cabin, and superior Road dynamics. Say hello to 2016 Hyundai Tucson which has just made a way into Indian market in order to bridge the gap between Creta and Santa Fe. Hyundai is not traditionally known for its SUVs forever this perception has drastically changed since the Creta made its debut in the market.

               Hyundai Tucson Road Test Review

Company has had golden Run with Creta SUV and the fact that Hyundai is able to sell around 6000 units of Creta on an average per month testify is the acceptance this s u v has got from Indian customers. Hyundai is expecting similar love from premium SUV category where it has just launched Tucson. This SUV doesn't have a direct rival in its sight although going by its price, Honda CR-V is the nearest competitor it has to face. Importantly the real motive of Tucson is to give the customers option between Creta and Santa Fe. We get behind the wheels of all new Tucson to tell you whether it is capable of doing what it is expected to do.

Design, Style and Interiors

Hyundai has made some more some of the most impressive cause of late in terms of design and styling and new Tucson is no different. It looks sleek, comes with handsome overall styling and design, and thanks to the use of razor sharp headlamps, this new SUV feels fresher than before. There is some sense of sophistication to the overall design which makes this Hindi look different from its competitors. It is big, large and has dominating proportions and despite this, the card doesn't look bulky and disproportionate. We must give credit to the Hyundai designer who have done a very fine job by striking of fine balance between style and substance. Especially at the back, the contour of the rear door is a clever trick used by the designer to break the bulk.

              Hyundai Tucson Dashboard

Following The Legacy of high quality, Tucson has got luxurious and feature rich cabin. There is no dearth in term of equipment and although the overall layout is familiar as used by other Hyundai, the quality and luxury of the cabin definitely mark an impression upon you. Whether it is climate control, touch-screen infotainment system with navigation and rear view camera, or smart boot which opens up itself given you have a key fob in your pocket. What is even more impressive is the space and comfort offered by both front and back seats. Front ones are power adjustable which provides you option to adjust the seat in 10 different ways. At the back, there is ample amount of space available and also there is no option of third bench, we are quite satisfied with the kind of space and comfort provided by this Hyundai.

Engine & Transmission

Tucson is powered by 2.0-liter drilling diesel Motors and company expects the diesel variant to bring in more numbers then petrol one. We get behind the wheels of diesel variant and found that Indian is impressively silent and refined. In terms of refinement, this Hyundai can match even the segment higher cars which is very good thinker especially in terms of total calm that passengers and driver can have within the cabin. Shifting of the gears is very smooth and effortless still you are aware all the time that power is being transferred from the engine to the wheels. We do not find any sort of hiccups when driving in the City however out on the highway, Tucson take some time to adjust and then driving all the way up to the top end in order to provide some good performance output.

            Tucson 6 Speed Manual Transmission

Unlike the other Hyundai cars, Tucson rides well and its suspension is not horrible soft. Hyundai has proved that it can make sensible riding cars and Tucson doesn't disappoint on that front. Definitely there is some Rolling movement and pitching taking place once you break hard, it doesn't threaten to go out of control like the previous Hyundai models. Handling is also sensible and although Tucson doesn't inspire you to chuck it around, it will take what will be thrown to it in normal circumstances.

Overall Verdict

Hyundai Tucson is priced at Rs 18.99 lakh for base variant with top of the variant going all up to Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This new generation Hyundai is very capable, looks astonishingly smart, comes with refined and performance oriented Motors, and pictures of very good combination of ride and quality handling. The cabin is very luxurious and the kind of equipment Hyundai has provided is definitely going to make new benchmark. Space inside the cabin is very appealing and be sure to add to the strength list of this Hyundai. In fact we see new Hyundai Tucson as a Perfect Combination of style and substance. This new powerful addition to the Hyundai portfolio in sure to take the game forward and will establish Hyundai as a credible manufacturer of SUVs.
