Hyundai Elantra: Road test Review

We get behind the wheels of 2016 Hyundai Elantra to find whether it has the substance to revive the fortunes of not only the company but also the executive D-segment of India automobile market.

Hyundai Elantra Road Test Review

Say hello to next generation Hyundai Elantra which has just landed in to the Indian automobile market in order to lure the buyers of premium sedan category. In its current form, Hyundai has developed 6 iterations of Elantra which is one of the most successful and best sellers Sedan of the company across the globe. Hyundai hope to replicate the same success with this flagship Sedan in India all the things are not very hunky-dory when it comes to the D-segment executive Salon. This category of Indian automobile market has consistently recorded decrease in the customer interest as people are now betting big on the SUV rather than doling out hefty amount of resources on the premium Sedan.
                 Hyundai Elantra
The way ahead for the Hyundai Elantra it not a easy one especially when you consider the competition like Toyota Corolla Altis, skoda Superb, and Chevrolet Cruze. All these Rival prepositions are doing well in the market and especially the Toyota has carved a very significant place for itself. The challenge for Hyundai is to outdone not only the Rival prepositions but also The Legacy offal of previous generation model. So how this 6th generation Elantra is better than its previous model and whether it has got all what it takes to succeed in the rapidly shrinking executive Sedan segment of Indian automobile industry. All these and much more answers we give you through road test review of 2016 Hyundai Elantra.

Design, Style & Interiors

There is no escaping from the fact that Hyundai has very intelligently used Fluidic sculpture 2.0 design language. The car exhibit clear case of low slung geometry which has been carved out by raked windscreens and massive hexagonal Chrome grill. Fog lamps on the other side also got a very intuitive openings which many will find not very pleasant to look at. Angular and pointy head flank the grill on the either side and in the topmost variant, deep discharge is high intensity light and comes with the provision of LEDs. In profile there is not much to differentiate this car from the previous model although rear part of the car has got its share of alterations. Unique LED tail lights are very pleasant to look at and the split pattern will help the car to have a unique Identity.

              6 Airbags Hyundai Elantra

Unlike the previous generation, interiors of the New Elantra follows a very German approach. In fact you will be deceived and for the moment could easily believe that you have just slipped into a German car. All the curvy design he has become the past and the new arrangement follow the clear, no nonsense approach. In the center of dash is 8.0" touch-screen infotainment system which along with other usual capabilities also features compatibility for both Apple and Android.

Front Seat and Rear Seat with Headrest adjustable

Instrument cluster has a regular to pot mechanism with a 3.5" TFT displaying the important information to the driver. Front seats are very large, have enough width and bolstered in pleasant manner. Additional is there is a ventilation system that will act as additional convenience for the front row passengers. At the back too where is north of the space. Occupants will have will be having no complaint for the leg room as well as headroom although from the outside the coupe like profile of the car somewhere indicates that head space is available only at a premium. Having said that you sit very low in the rear seat that could become a problem for the long Journeys as the thigh support is not very much appreciable. Boot space on the other hand is very large and capacious and there is no dearth of space whatsoever happens to be there on luggage room.

Engine, Transmission & Driving Dynamics

Under the Hood the car is powered by choice of two engines - 2.0-litre petrol engine and 1.6-litre diesel engine. We got our hand on the former which come mated with six-speed automatic transmission. The petrol engine is really nice to drive and the 6p daughter box provides seamless experience of switching the gears. There are three modes that are provided on the automatic - normal, eco, and sport. Weather in the city or out on the highway, this Hyundai has behaved in a well perfected manner. Switching between the different driving modes will give you feeling of difference order motor as well as transmission reacts to the dawn shift but overall there is a no nit-picking that we have about this engine transmission combination. Hyundai has really made strides on the front of engine and transmission and if you are not her it and not pushing the car to its limit, there will be little to complain about.

             Petrol Engine Hyundai Elantra

We are equally impressed by the ride and handling combination of Hyundai new Elantra. Over the years Hyundai has improved on this aspect and new Elantra is the testimony how much progress the South Korean automaker has been able to achieve. Elantra behave in a very sedate, calm, and progressive minor and thanks to the use of high tensile Steel material, there is less body roll that is associated with this executive sedan. Although we would feel happy if there is much more feedback from the steering wheel as likes other typical Hyundai, provide little assurance to the driver when going to the corners.

Overall Verdict

Hyundai has priced 2016 Elantra very competitively as the range starts at Rs 13.21 lakh for the base petrol variant going all the way up to Rs 19.58 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). We found new Elantra very capable proposition however company has missed on some of the important equipment like rain sensing wipers, memory function for the seat positions, and steering mounted pedals. Still this Hyundai offers quite an attractive preposition and deliver very competitively on important and crucial fronts of interiors, engines and performance, and overall ride and handling. Executive Sedan segment in Indian automobile market is not a very growth-oriented one specially looking at present scenario however new Elantra seems to have got a right combination when it comes to luring luxury seeking sedan buyers.
