2015 Honda Jazz: Road-Test Review

Honda has launched third generation Jazz in India with all-new exteriors, interiors, and range of power plants. The new Jazz comes with class-leading space and features along with mileage that is second only to Maruti Celerio.

2015 Honda Jazz Road Test Review - Ecardlr

There is riding a whole lot on new, 3rd generation Honda Jazz that has just been walked into Honda facilities near you.  Not only this stylish hatch has to wean away chunk of loyal Maruti and Hyundai fans but also has to write new legacy that its predecessor didn't able to create. So when stakes are such a high ones, it's obvious that Honda is no mood to take any chances. Having burnt its fingers for not having diesel Jazz last time, logical sense prevailed in the form of introduction of oil-burner under the hood of latest version of Jazz.  In fact with rated mileage figures crossing of 27.3 km/l, Jazz is the most fuel efficient car in the country after Celerio diesel. Of course, petrol engine also chug along with diesel and availability of CVT variant takes the overall range of choices available to customers’ one notch further. Along with mileage, jazzy styling and spacious interiors are other unique selling points of Jazz which is all-set to rock the premium hatchback segment of Indian automobile industry. Like other masses, we were also up in excitement at the very thought of testing and bringing the detailed review for our esteemed readers. Tingling with excitement, we hop inside and settled behind the wheels of one of the world’s best-seller hatchbacks. What follows next is something that makes up rest of this road-test review.

Exteriors & Interiors Impressions

Jazz styling was always its strong point and new Jazz takes it up by a notch. Dynamics sheet metal crisscrossed with plenty of characteristic creases help Jazz to turn up as completely different proposition.
Profile looks a bit elongated though strong character line helps the silhouette to break away from any awkward feeling.  Rear is equally stylized with modern tail lamps and sporty tailgate.

Inside the cabin, Jazz feels a familiar cabin as car draws upon the other siblings to eventuate itself.  Jazz feels exactly similar to the elder sibling, the City save for the details like cup-holders, cubby holes etc.

Driver seat height adjustment comes handy though it is available in selected top variants only. Similar is the case with magic seats that flip-fold-tumble in variety of ways. Seats are easily one of the most spacious ones available in business and offer plenty of leg, head and knee room for occupants.  There is best-in-class 354 litres of boot space which extends to 881 litres once second bench is folded down.

Getting in and out is impressively easier too and so is the broad and square loading lip of the car. Honda is offering two trims for upholstery: black for top version and black-beige for the lower ones.

Power-Plant & Driving Dynamics

We took 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine to spin and found initial impressions exactly similar to what we know about petro Hondas i.e. very rev-happy and eager. Motor develops 90 PS of max power and 118 Nm of max torque.  Engine is extremely drivable and especially the top-range is extremely gratifying.  Car is extremely efficient and we got surprised by its parsimonious nature while consuming fuel. Transmission is very slick unit and shifts with an utmost ease.

Ride and handling also struck a very responsive chord as the car feel light and agile. Ride quality is good and compared to previous version, feels very pliable and composed. Straight line stability is good too and despite being stretched profile, car doesn't deviate from its stability. That said, bigger tyres would have given more road grip to the car.

Equipment wise Jazz is a loaded machine. It got all the bells and whistles including the goodies like touch screen navigation system, rear camera, ABS with EBD, paddle shifter for CVT gearbox etc.

Overall Verdict

Jazz range stretches between Rs 5.31- 8.59 lakh which is quite competitive in nature. Jazz comes equipped with various best-in-class features and offers loads of comfort and convenience.  Most significantly new Jazz comes with a very practical and range of petrol and diesel engines that boast of decent performance and splendid fuel efficiency. In sum, this time around Jazz has got all what it takes to be a winner.  If you are planning to buy a car, better take a look on Jazz as it has all ingredients of a reliable and long-term companion.
