Volkswagen Polo Customer Review basis 4 yrs & 91000 Kms Experience

No one else can review his or her Volkswagen car better than its owner. More so when he/she has been driving his/her Polo for close to 4 years having clocked nearly 1 lacs kms on it. Loved interviewing this customer who has given basic but relevant information which would be useful for prospective Volkswagen Polo buyer/s.

Good thing that I love about my Maruti Suzuki Alto 800

Easy to use in City.

One Thing that I don't like about my Maruti Suzuki Alto 800

Space of the car is vey less.

My Consideration Set

I had explored the Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Suzuki Swift and Ford Figo also  along with Volkswagen Polo.

Elite i20

I did not buy the Elite i20 because of its high service and maintenance cost. High service is not about per service cost but basis frequency of service in a year. Elite i20 has to be sent for servicing every 10000 kms/1 year whichever is earlier, whereas in case of Polo it’s at 15000 kms/1 year whichever is earlier. Elite i20 service cost would have been at least 20-30% over Polo  with mileage being at least 1-2 Kmpl less.

Ford Figo

I did not buy the Ford Figo because its design was not feeling new and not as good as Polo.

Maruti Suzuki Swift

Swift was not bought because it has started looking ordinary in the market and even engineering wise I was looking at better engineered car and Polo is from a German car company.

What do you like about your Volkswagen Polo Diesel

Style, looks, seats, driving comfort, good high speed control and the sound of the car at an overall level is what I like about my Polo.

It looks very perfect, stylish & sporty. Sporty looks comes from compact feeling to the eyes as the design is so perfect. Colour of the interior, dashboard design, in-built stereo, and controls are placed very well and are comfortable to operate. Easy to switches and system and they have more features. For example the windshield wipers have 8 different speed control settings with2 high speed set-ups. Driver information system shows everything, you can read the following things in it; current mileage, day mileage, how much fuel left, total driving time, service due time, everything is displayed on the screen.

AC is so powerful that it cools the cabin in 30 secs. Even though there is no rear ac vents but front vents also cools the rear seat very fast.

Seating comfort for driver is very good as driver seat can be adjusted up & down as well as front and back. Such seat adjustment helps driver to improve road visibility for him/her.

Seat has cushions which makes you feel as if you fit inside snugly. Rear seat, leg space is good, foaming is good and headrest also improves seating comfort. Once you sit in rear seat you feel very comfortable even on long drives as well with 3 people sitting together in rear seat.

In this hatchbacks segment Polo is the only has which has a very unique sound. Once you accelerate the car the sound that comes from the car feels manly and it sounds like a powerful sound from a powerful car.

Good control at high speed. Even when are driving the car around 80-90 Kmph speed and you have to turn the car suddenly, you can easily slow down the car and take the turn. You don’t feel  there is any risky. Thanks to Polo being a heavy car the car feels as it stuck to the road even at high speeds. In comparison to other hatchback cars Polo has maximum weight therefore the car feel stable. When I was in the market to buy my new car, I looked at Hyundai Elite i20, Ford Figo and Swift. I found Polo the polo to be far heavier than other car. Heavy means car drives very stably and you feel in control at all speed, heavy as per me means that the car does not show tendency to fly off even if there is just one person in the car, the Polo drives smoothly and it sticks to the road. As per company information Polo is the strongest car. It’s a heavy car because structure is heavy.

Control over the steering and braking is perfect.

Polo is also cheaper to maintain as the service schedule is after every 15000 Kms as compared to other similar cars whose maintenance cycle is 10000 Kms.

I have driven nearly one lack ms and till date I have not done any major engine work, even clutch plates are original.

What I do not like about my Volkswagen Polo

Only the pick-up of this car is low while starting, else it’s a good car. Pick-up particularly in 1st and 2nd gear. Polo has TDi engine, Turbo starts working only in 4th gear or after 60 Kmph speed and when the turbo starts one can feel that the car has got more power and even after this sudden power the car remains in control.

Service cost is only expensive when parts have to be changed. Parts are expensive.

Suspension service comes at 80000 Kms. Suspension wise Indian roads are not good therefore service advisor starts pushing for suspension repair from 40000-50000 Kms onwards.

  • This is the safest car in its category.
  • Company give Life-Time colour guarantee, even after 5 years there is no rust on any metal part of my Polo.
  • You will not feel any sound even after 5 years.

  • Maintenance cost particularly with respect to parts is expensive.
