This is my personal first car the family has a WagonR which I used to drive also.

My Buying Process

My new car purchase was evalauted on 2 filters; Budget and Respect to availabe space for parking being in a Metro where space is always a constraint.

Even Maruti Celerio Purchase was a case of stretched budget and on higher side for me. Even if my budget permitted which it didn't, I would not have bought a bigger sedan thanks to parking space constraint and city driving where it is easy to drive compact cars.

Basis my criteria two cars were in my consideration were; Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Hyundai i10. Being from Haldwani which is a highly populated city, it even today has just one Hyundai dealership as compared to Maruti which has 2-3 dealers therefore better service reach. Maruti also has another advantage of having service support in nearby areas like; Bajpur and Rudrapur which are around 30-40 Kms from Haldwani. In addition to service stations I was also informed that Hyundai i10 mileage was not as good as Maruti Suzuki Celerio plus its service cost was also expected to be on comparatively higher side. Maruti was also preferred due to strong market connect, its an indian car made by Indian brand and they understand Indian roads better.

What I love about my Maruti Suzuki Celerio

Approachable Dashboard
- I am a person from hilly area and I am around 5'5" tall. It's a hatchback and I have therefore done my driver seat height fixing in such a manner that I can push the clutch fully to the bottom level. After doing this, within my half arms reach I can access all necessary gadgets like AC buttons, clutch and gear lever as seating fixing is very comfortable for my height. I therefore don't have to lean down and my back always remains strainght which make over all driving very comfortable and easy.

Good Drive View - If I am sitting in my driver seat and If I have to take a 360 view from inside my car to park the car or take a cut, my eyeballs will move around and look for inside and outside rear view mirrors to ensure that my car 'Kahin Lag to Nahi Rahi Hai Ya Mein Aasani Se Nikal Jaunga' as I can see every corner of the car.

Steering Corner Very Comfortably means while you are cutting down through the steering I can see all the corners and that is the best part, in my office parking has lots of pillars and even the exit has pillars or narrow lane and I can see, plus the car is designed in a manner that in my outside mirror I can see the car from tyres and roof.

Performance – I would love to give 4 instead of 3 or 3.5 the lower rating only because of AC noise

Pick-up Petrol Good – Means the acceleration meets my expectation of pressure that I apply to my accelerator, I get an equally good acceleration

Braking Stability Better than WagonR – As I told you earlier, my family has a WagonR which I drive too, and on highways with open roads the moment you cross speeds of 70-80 Kmph the car shivers so much as if it’s going out of control. Celerio feels good up to 100 Kmph speed.

Great Value for Money Car – In my family I and wife drive this car and both of us are of slightly shorter height, yet we can drive the Celerio quite comfortably, so on this basis it’s a great VFM. Price is around 4.40 Lacs and its comfortable price for me.

Service Cost Expectation – I expect service cost to be around Rs.4000 and I might even be ok with a cost of Rs.5000/service. If it’s anything above Rs.5000/service I will raise my eyebrow.

What I do not like about my Maruti Suzuki Celerio

AC Needs a Little Improvement – You have 4 pointer for AC fan speed, till the time I am 2 point, but that I use only when there is just me in the car along with a front co-passenger, however, if there are passengers in the rear then in order to cool the rear of the car, I have to adjust the fan speed to 3 or 4. The moment I raise the fan speed the blower nice is so heavy that sometimes when I am playing radio or USB even at Volume of 25, the blower noise over powers stereo noise.

Stability Issue beyond 100 Kmph – Till 100 Kmph Celerio is good and feels stable, however beyond 100 Kmph if there is a need to move the steering a little left or right, you feel the car is going to lose control, you get such a feeling at 70-80 Kmph speed in WagonR.

Missing Airbags – Airbags are becoming a benchmark to get a higher rating for safety. Maruti has provided tubeless tyres but when it comes to inside safety, god forbid if you meet accident then steering will hit the driver and it could be dangerous. They should provide this in VXi at no extra cost after all it’s a matter of one’s life.

For price point, very nice spacious interior and good performance including mileage.

Noisy AC Blowers at speeds of 3 & 4.

MIssing Airbags and ABS.
