Hyundai Xcent CNG Review by a Dejected Loyalist

Looking at Vineet's plight one feels sorry for him, however even after all the pain he has to go through with his new Hyundai Xcent, he was very objective while giving his review for the car. Unfortunatley Hyundai seems to have losta loyal cutomer.

My Previous Cars

This is my second Hyundai car. First was Hyundai i10 – Very good experience, nice car basis that I decided to upgrade to another Hyundai.

Mileage: City – 17-18 Kmpl (CNG). Highway –. 20-21 (CNG)
City -12 Kmpl (Petrol) . Highway – 16-17 Kmpl (Petrol)

Average service cost : Rs.5000/Service. Every 5000/6000 Kms. I used to do 3 to 4 services a year thanks to my usage.

Kms Done: 125000. Bought in July 2009, used it for 7 years.

What I love about my Hyundai Xcent CNG

Car is rich with features. The best thing is integrated Bluetooth, as it has become my mobile office on road as I can connect with my clients without any hitch.

I am happy with my mileage with CNG therefore its cost effective.

Overall driving experience is good, there is no feeling of tiredness even after having driven 100 + Kms in city at a stretch.

With CNG there is a certain lag in acceleration, however with petrol it’s quite adequate.

Suspension is neither too good nor too bad. Its a balanced suspension, one does not feel the jerks nor does one feel major thuds because of tight suspension.

Even after CNG cylinder I can still get ample amount of luggage fitted in the car. Legroom is good in both front and rear seats. Seats are normally very short in the rear. however, in case of my Xcent its pretty long and therefore comforting.

What I do not like about my Hyundai Xcent CNG

Unfortunately I do not have very many positives for the car as my experience over last 16-18 months have not been very good. I have no option but to continue with the car.

My first 6 months with my new Xcent was really a very harrowing honeymoon period, with problems galore, some of them are:

In 2 months ignition switch stopped working, car had to be towed to be taken to service station.

RPM fluctuation problem in idle situation, it used to move between 500 to 5000 Rpm. Every time the service station would clean the throttle body and I will continue facing the  problem, this they repeated for 5 times, finally they replaced my cars engine head. Things got sorted post this issue.

Car stereo was faulty, Bluetooth connectivity problem; it was replaced after following due processes.

Heating problem after being with service station for 2 days, they replaced everything related to this issue like; Radiator, Coolant, switches etc.

Whenever I used to engage my first gear, there was a continuous humming noise from the car, the company replaced Clutch plates, clutch bearing, pressure plates were all replaced.

Highway Experience

Car feel steady on high speeds as high as 130 Kmph, however, around 140 kmph speed did find the car to be a bit shaky on Yamuna expressway. However till 130 no problem car feel stable . Overtaking is good in petrol on highway, as I have always driven in petrol on highway.

Not to enamoured by my car thanks to all the bad experience.

I will never ever buy a Hyundai
