My Previous Cars

This is my 3rd car, previous ones were Maruti 800, Hyundai Santro and now this car. I am a car enthusiast who likes to learn and know about the car I am driving in detail.

What do you like the most about your Honda Brio

I like the engine of my Honda Brio the most the power the car. Brio has 90 Bhp iVTEC engine that has good pick-up, nice speed it can catch up too. This is the main punch point of my Brio. This car is in the price bracket of WagonR, Celerio and not in the price range of Swift etc, Therefore when I compare its performance it’s in comparison to these cars. These cars have 1 litre engine with 65-70 Bhp power Brio has 90 BHP as the same price point.

Space inside the Brio is my next favourite. Once you get inside the car you feel that you have got into a spacious car. At that time Honda was using a design concept of ‘Man Maximum Machine Minimum’ to offer its owners comfort of maximum space. They have managed to offer the space by pushing the dashboard inwards into the engine bay to offer more legroom in the front and seats are thinner so that legroom for rear seat passenger is increased. They have used such approach to increase passenger space inside the car. From outside the car looks small, but once you get inside you see the marvel of engineering, the detailing and pains Honda has taken to maximise passenger space by eking out every millimetre for them. Thin seats do not impact seating comfort nor do they impact on thigh support. Honda might have reduced the seat foam in Brio but I do not feel uncomfortable sitting inside the car. As far as the seating goes I am pretty much comfortable. By not making it fatter just like seats in Mercs or the Polo where the seats are unnecessarily thick which is not required. Brio seats are probably more optimised for seating comfort.

Another special mention about Brio is that since the car is much wider than its earlier mentioned competitor, the car feels spacious and can accommodate 5 passengers quite comfortably.

In-built music system that I got with the car is very good. Even though it’s basic as it just has aux-in, USB, radio and just 2 speakers yet it has good sound quality which is crisp and clear.

Handling is very good and stable; because the chassis is small this allows you to throw the car around into the corners with lots of confidence. Throwing the car around the corner  means that if you have to take a sharp turn at around 30-40 Kmph speeds the car feels in control and it feels as if it is in your hand. The car is stable even at speeds of 100-120 Kmph as the car feel sure-footed.

AC is very effective, inside the car has small footprint, vis-a-vis the Ac is powerful. It has same AC unit which is being used in bigger Jazz. AC therefore is powerful to tackle the large glass area this car has by design.

The tyres are also of decent size for a car its size and power. It has 175/65, R14 tyres compare to mentioned competition it has pretty much sufficient rubber on the wheel. Cars like WagonR and Hyundai i10 has 155 section compared to Brio which has 175 section which is basically the width of tyre means Brio has higher contact with the road. 65 is the height of the tyre which helps in absorbing the ruggedness of the road.

Interior plastic of the Brio is good, chunky dials and AC knobs they feel sturdy and you feel that they are built to last. Millions of millions times you can turn them around without worrying about damaging them. Power window buttons are also sturdy – ‘Kahin Nahi Jane Wale’.

What you did not like about this car:

The main crucial pain point of the car is its ride quality particularly in the back. It’s too wobbly and lots of continuous up & down pitching in rear as the rear suspension is too soft. On long drives it’s really painful, that I why I try to drive the car most often on long drives. Front suspension even though is comparatively stiffer, nothing to write home about but still better than rear suspension. Thanks to wobbly rear suspension, if I have to on occasions sit in the back seat, I am more cautious, I cannot use my phone because of the fear of being thrown around on bumps or speed breakers. I usually grab the rear hand grab while I am sitting in back.

Boot area is very much exposed due to large glass area, however I have installed a rear parcel tray which cuts the view of boot and what’s kept there.

Build or construction quality is ‘Tinny (as in tin) or Hollow or strong or sturdy’ in comparison to Ford Figo. One comes to know about it primarily while shutting the door, the noise that comes out while shutting is very hollow. The sheet metal is thinner. If I push myself against the Brio the sheet goes inside.

Engine power that reaches nice speeds so easily.

Rear seat comfort compromised due to soft suspension.
