Ford’s Freestyle CUV Bookings to Start From April 7th 2018

Ford has scooped out a new category in the UV segment by describing its upcoming Freestyle as a Compact Utility Vehicle (CUV).

Ford has smartly introduced an additional category in the utility vehicles segment and the first car to be launched here is called Freestyle CUV - a Compact Utility Vehicle. In February we got the first glimpse of the car and that was a week before the Auto Expo. Freestyle’s preview was also published on the official website of company earlier this year. The bookings will start on 7th April 2018.

What is the reason behind a new fancy name? Positioned between the Figo (hatchback) and EcoSport (compact SUV), the Freestyle gets categorised as a CUV.

In terms of looks, Ford Freestyle has rugged appeal and there are several touches of black to give it a sporty grille. You can see them on grille, the bumper inserts, the cladding around wheel arches & through doors, and the ORVMs.

It gets big sweptback headlamps, silver skid plate and soft character lines on bonnet and side. Together with the body cladding and roof rails the Freestyle is styled as a crossover.

The Freestyle is slightly bigger than its sibling Figo in all aspects. It has a length of 3954 mm, width of 1737 mm and height of 1570 mm. However the wheelbase is marginally less at 2490 mm. The space in boot is the same at 257 litre.

The ground clearance is higher than that of Figo. The car is equipped with Active Rollover Prevention (ARP) and electronic stability control (ESC). This system is designed to identify an impending rollover and can apply brakes to individual wheels and decrease the engine torque in such situation. The ARP takes on ESC and its 3 chassis control systems that are already on the car – the anti-lock braking, traction control and yaw control. You will get this stet-up only with the top two variants - Titanium and Titanium+

There are 2 engine options with the Freestyle:

?    1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Dragon Petrol Engine that generates 95 BHP and 120 Nm torque
?    1.5-litre, 4-cylinder Diesel Engine that produces 99 BHP and 215 Nm of torque – this one is also used in other Ford cars.

In the initial launch, ford is only offering a 5 speed manual transmission with both the engines. The reported fuel economy with Petrol is 19 km/litre and for the Diesel it is 24.4 km / litre

The cabin features with the Titanium of this CUV include automatic climate control and push button Start / Stop. More advanced elements like SYNC 3, rain sending wipers along with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are given only with the top end Titanium+ trim.

With the Trend variant (and above) you will get Bluetooth, USB, navigation system, touchscreen based infotainment and steering mounted controls.

Safety features with the Ford Freestyle comprise standard dual airbags and ABS. The side and curtain airbags come only with the Titanium+ variant. Reverse parking sensors and seat belt reminders that come only with Titanium trim of Aspire and Figo are also offered as standard with Freestyle.

Although the prices have not been announced by Ford yet, we expect them between Rs 6 lakh and 8 lakhs. Ecardlr will bring you the complete review of Freestyle soon after the official launch.
