The changes on the front include a new large kidney grill, separated LED headlamps, redesigned front bumper, aggressive air intake, and fog lamps. In the profile, the SUV has got 18-inch alloys while the top model gets the option of 21-inch wheels. The rear section of the SUV now gets wraparound LED tail lamps. BMW has used a new CLAR platform to build the new X3 and as a result, the SUV has shredded 55 kg despite having similar dimension to the outgoing model. Inside the cabin, the most important change happens to be in the form of new iDrive infotainment system which has the convenience of touch screen and voice control. Other features like Harman Kardon music system, BMW connected apps, adaptive suspension system, hill start assist, Hill Descent control, and traction control system remains similar to the older model.

For now, the BMW X3 will be offered only with a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine making 190 bhp and 400 Nm. The engine is coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission which channels the power to all the four wheels of the car, known as xDrive in company's speak. The petrol version of the SUV is expected to be offered later this year. In the Indian market, the BMW X3 is competing against the likes of Mercedes GLC, Audi Q5, Volvo XC90, and Land Rover Discovery sport among others.
