An X-by-wire technology is being installed on commercial automobiles such as throttle-by-wire and steer-by-wire. Several automobiles and automotive component Manufacturers Company are developing Brake-by-wire technology. This technique is not yet commercialized worldwide. The reason behind this is the safety-critical nature of brake items and products. Until now, Toyota (Electronically Controlled Brake) and Mercedes-Benz (Sensotronic) have used almost fully brake-by-wire systems on their car models that are SL models and on Toyota's and Estima Mercedes-Benz E-class, respectively. This technology has replaced the traditional components like hoses, fluids, pumps, belts, master cylinders and vacuum service. Electronic actuators and sensors are used with master cylinders. The drive-by-wire technology has replaced the hydraulic and mechanical traditional system with an electronic system. X-wire makes use of both the technology. Eventually, it will provide significant benefit to the carmakers. Advantages of installing such technology in the car are increased design flexibility, enhanced performance, and reduced mass. It is due to degradation of hardware, mechanical connections. The system based on this technology functions without any conventional mechanical elements like parking brake cable, steering shaft and brake booster. The systems have highly organized network wires, controllers, sensors, and actuator control that control the mechanical function of the automobile. Mechanical function of the automobile includes braking, steering, suspension and throttle control system. In future all, this single by-wire system will function together through a common controller and electrical architecture. It will capitalize on natural redundancy gained from braking, steering functions. Eventually, it reduces overall complexity for easy functionality and understanding. With X-by-Wire technology, cars become low emission and safe. It has free layout architecture. It is also used in high-speed bus to increase its performance. X-by-wire is a low cost technology.
