The Valvetronic system is a variable valve timing system which offers continuous and precisely variable intake valve lift. Instead of traditional butterfly, Engine makes use of electrical mechanism which controls the lift of each valve of each cylinder. The main advantages of it being: Firstly, it is more efficient and performs spontaneously. Secondly, there is Fuel savings which can reach up to 10%. Thirdly, lower exhaust emission and also improved cold start up behavior. Also, there are no pumping losses. Lastly, we get extra smoothness on a reduced load, as the valve movements are kept to a minimum. This system claims to better the fuel economy and emissions and also, removes the need for a throttle body in daily use. It was first introduced in the 316ti compact by BMW in 2001 and since then Valvetronic has since been added to many of the BMW's engines /cars. Vanos is generally used with the Valvetronic system to get finer efficiency.
