Timing Marks are the indicator used for setting the timing for the engine’s ignition system. These are normally found on the flywheel or on the crankshaft pulley and are largest radius that rotates at crankshaft speed. Timing marks are indicated in terms of degrees found before the Top Dead Centre (TDC). The place marked with one degree interval is the farthest of all. In older engines timing light was used for setting the ignition timing. The timing of the ignition can be set at the correct point to fire in the rotation of the engine and exactly few degrees prior to the top dead centre and could be advanced with increasing speed of the engine. By loosening or rotating the distributor on its seat, the timing could be adjusted. Modern engines come with a crank sensor which is connected to the engine management system directly. The timing marks of the crankshaft will also match with that of the camshaft.
