Monocoque Construction is also known as Monocoque that means comprising the chassis as well as the complete body in the single part. The other elements of the vehicle such as steering drive or power train, suspension, and brakes are directly mounted to the body of the vehicle. These parts are either directly bolted to the body or it can also bolted to the sub-frames that are nothing but a smaller casing which gets bolted to the main body. There are many numbers of modern vehicles use this technology of Monocoque Construction. The Monocoque structures are specially planned and designed with the help of appropriate crumble zones in order to keep away the impact waves from the people sitting inside the vehicle. It helps manufacturers to improve the safety of the passengers as well as the driver of the vehicle. During the earlier times, the initial major production of Monocoque chassis was carried out during the year 1942 for the car named as Nash 600. In today’s modern time, the developers and manufacturers of the vehicle are even working harder in order to make the Monocoque chassis stronger, affordable and yet more lighter as compared to the earlier time. All this is only possible with the modern technology available to the manufacturers. The Monocoque chassis technology can only be used for the regular vehicles not for the commercial vehicles where they need bigger chassis. The classic example of Monocoque technology can be taken as Formula one car. Even if they look unsafe from outside, because of the proper combination of fiberglass to make the Monocoque chassis, it offers the great safety to the driver from any impact. The good thing about the Formula one car is they are also very light weight as they are made from fiber glass material. Another classis example can be taken as the BMW car that is known as concept city car that comes under various variations. They were able to use the fiber material Monocoque chassis technology perfectly into the regular car that will be driven by the electrical motors. They have perfectly improved the safety of the vehicle with the Monocoque chassis technique that can absorb the complete impact of the crash and distributing it to the complete body. Because of the distributing the impact in complete body, the chances of passengers getting hurt decreases by great amount. As the Monocoque chassis are made from fiber material, it provide great light weight to the vehicle with increased impact strength as compared to the metal Monocoque chassis. As the weight gets reduced the performance of the car also improved along with the increase in power and speed. The vehicle also consumes less fuel in case of BMW concept car it is electricity. The overall performance of the car gets improved as rests of the parts are fitted to the chassis directly eliminating the sub-frame.
