Head Restraints are one of the safety features used in automobile. It is usually integrated or attached into the top of each seat so that it could limit the adult occupant’s head movement towards rearside in relation to the torso during collision so that it can prevent or avoid injury or whiplash to the cervical vertebrae. Whiplash is caused due to the head extending backward during initial stage from torso and thrown forward. It is to be noted that it has reduced several serious injuries since its introduction in the year 1960. It has also been made mandatory in several countries. It is ideal to have the head restraints to be fixed at the height of the head’s gravity centre and also closer to the rear of the head. It is ideal to have the adjustable head restraint so that it could be adjusted according to each passengers’ eye level. Some of the head restraints come with closed design and does not allow the view of the rear but most commonly they come in an open design making the passengers to have a good view.  However, it should not be confused with the modern head rest that are flimsy, convenient but does not some with safety aspect.
