There are some cars which come with FRP bodies but it is extremely difficult to achieve a finish compared to metal bodies. The Fiberglass is a type of fiber reinforced plastic in which reinforced fiber is particularly glass fiber. Carbon Fiber, as mentioned before, is like FRP is also less brittle, and its raw materials are much cheaper. The glass fiber though randomly arranged but is usually woven into a mat. The plastic matrix may be a thermosetting plastic most often include epoxy, polyester resin- or vinylester, or a thermoplastic. The glass used is of various types depending upon the usage of the fiberglass. All of these glasses contain silica or silicate, with varying amounts of oxides of Calcium, magnesium and sometimes boron. The glass fibers are very carefully made with very low levels of defects so that they can be used in fiberglass. Its bulk strength and weight are way to better than many metals, and it can be easily be molded into complex shapes. It can be formed by the following processes viz. Bladder moulding, pultrusion, TRM & VARTM, Compression moulding, Mandrel Wrapping, Autoclave/ vacuum bag, chopper gun, wet layup and Filament wing. Some of the properties of Fibre glass – reinforced are that they can be used as Storage tanks, in House building, hot tubs, septic tanks, water tanks, roofing, pipes, cladding, casts, surfboards, aircraft, boats, automobiles, bath tubs and enclosures, door skins and for piping purposes. It advantages over stamped aluminum is that it can be oriented to reinforce against some specific stresses and increasing durability and safety and over cast aluminum is that its 60% less in weight, it improves surface quality and aerodynamics and reduces the components by combining parts and forms into moulded shapes.
