Heart of the Matter - 3.0 TDi
The power train of the new Audi A6, at 193 Kg it weighs almost 23 Kg lesser that its earlier version doing its duty efficiently in the Q5 and Q7, old A8, A6 & A4. Weight trimming was done across all engine parts, crank case lost 6 kgs thanks to its Vermicular Graphite Cast Iron construction, 2 chains (instead of 4) for driving the camshafts and ancillaries reduced another 4 kg, lighter rotating masses added to rest of the weight loss.
Reduced internal friction in the crank gear, camshaft drive system and other ancillaries like oil pump. Reworked common rail system capable of delivering fuel at 2000 bar and 3 post-injections. Tweaked air intake and exhaust system, has resulted in a tangible 5 bhp more power with a much more refined and smoother operating diesel power plant.
