Tata Motors has launched Bolt hatchback I India in price range of Rs 4.44 lakh – Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Bolt is underpinned by similar X1 platform that makeup other Tata vehicles like Zest and Vista. This 5-door hatchback is quite similar to its elder Zest that makes it quite a looker and attractive proposition. New frontage with redesigned nose and chin, blacked out c-pillar and contemporary rear lend Bolt an air of sophistication. Inside the cabin too, Bolt sports upgraded quality and better finishing. Generous equipment level and spacious cabin make this 5-door hatch one of the most comfortable propositions amongst its category. However there are severe and irritating shortages of storage space as Bolt severely lacked on cubby holes and bottle holders. Boot space feels a tad lower in capacity and way off from what we have witnessed in some segment cars. Under the hood, Bolt offers both petrol and diesel options though its diesel engine is tuned to make only 75 PS of max power. Unlike Zest there is no 90 PS diesel on offer and same thing applies on absence of automatic transmission. Overall Tata Bolt emerges as very competitive offering and if you can afford to neglect some of its niggles, Bolt ticks all the right boxes on selection criteria of a good city runabout.
