Renault Pulse is badged version of Nissan’s Micra though Renault has carried out enough alternations to make it substantially different in appearance. Externally, Pulse has got bolder frontage with blacked-out element though some folks may find it too aggressive to their liking. In profile and from rear, Pulse’s design feels quite familiar. Inside the cabin, Renault has loaded Pulse with features and equipment as there is everything that one usually expects from premium hatchback. Top of the line version of Pulse comes with start-stop push button start, auto headlamps, 2-DIN music system, automatic climate control, dual front airbags, and ABS with EBD and Brake assist. Cabin space is also good and leather wrapped steering wheel and gear lever feels particularly special in their feel and aura. Front seats are good on space though we would like some more bolstering on the sides. Rear bench is capable to seat two adults in comfort though three will feel a bit squeezed owing to average width of cabin. Engine options include both petrol and diesel though on transmission front, only manual option is available for now. Renault could launch Pulse with automatic transmission at time of its facelift release though nothing can be confirmed at this moment.
The Renault Pulse was launched in the year 2012 and it is necessarily a version of the Nissan Micra. A hatchback, introduced for the first time in India in New Delhi, it went on sale in January 2012 at the New Delhi Motor Show. A sporty looking vehicle, the Renault Pulse is an endearing streak of speed as it cruises on the road.
This Renault car is also blessed with some extremely striking external designing as are the other Renault vehicles. Once again, there is a bold front grille design fashioned with chrome and a big Renault signature in the centre. Body coloured door handles look chic and elegant and so do the 15” inch alloy wheels which also make for a fantastic grip on the roads. The ORVMs have sensors installed in them by which they automatically fold and unfold as per the locking and unlocking of the car.
On the inside is a handsomely crafted dashboard with smart technology planted in the cabin. There is a beautiful looking round shaped Automatic Climate Control System that helps you set an ideal temperature for yourself inside the car. An integrated audio system with four speakers is there catering to all your music needs after a heavy day at work. There is also an illuminated Start/Stop button with which the engine can be controlled at the press of a button. A Smart Key Access smoothens out things more. The engine can be started with the key with the push of a button and it automatically locks or unlocks the car depending upon one’s proximity to the car. The Renault Pulse comes loaded with air bags in the front for both the driver and the passenger. It also has a brilliant minimum turning radius of 4.65 meters which helps in easy manoeuvrability.
The Renault Pulse comes in two engine types: the Pulse Petrol version and the Pulse Diesel version. The Petrol version is a 3 cylinder, in line, DOHC 12 valve engine type with a 5 speed Manual transmission. A Power of 76 PS @ 6000 rpm and a torque of 104 Nm @ 4000 rpm is given out by this one. The Diesel on the other hand is a 4 cylinder, in line, 8V SOHC engine type with once again a 5 speed Manual transmission. Power produced by the Diesel variant is 64 PS @ 4000 rpm and torque is 160 Nm @ 2000 rpm. Both the variants share a common aspect in terms of brakes which are Ventilated disc in the front and drum brakes in the rear. Both models also have a fuel tank capacity of 41 litres.
A swarm of colours is available for the consumers to pick from for their Renault Pulse and this includes Champagne Gold, Metallic Grey, Metallic Red, Metallic Silver, Pearl White and Solid Black. There are also seven variants to choose from: RxE Petrol, RxL Diesel, RxL Petrol, RxL with Airbags (optional), RxZ Diesel, RxZ Diesel with passenger airbags (optional) and RxZ Petrol. The price ranges from 4.44 lakhs to 6.81 lakhs (Ex showroom price- Delhi) depending on the choice of variant.
The success of this car is validated with the fact that it received an awesome entry into the Indian market and the prizes that have already been won. The Renault Pulse won the ‘Premium Hatch of the Year’ award in 2012 at the NDTV Car & Bike Awards. It also received the ‘Best Debut @ Auto Expo 2012’. Overall an excellent vehicle which fulfils in almost all criteria, the Renault Pulse has certainly struck a beating pulse with the Indian consumers.
