The Renault group had launched Fluence and Koleos before introducing the Duster in the market. And what an entry it has been for this SUV as it quite quickly made up for the lagging sales of its predecessors! The India launch of the Renault Duster happened recently in July 2012 and since then it has been steadily climbing up the sales charts.
An impeccably crafted and stunning looking vehicle, the Renault Duster is capable of taking one’s breath away at the very first sight. Be it the sporty looking roof rails, the 5 spoke 16” alloy wheels, the chrome finish on the tailgate with ‘Duster’ engraved on it or the chrome tipped single exhaust pipe… all add greatly and sophisticatedly to the Duster’s overall charm. It also has double barrel headlamps which not only improve visibility but also add to the opulence of the car.
On the inside is sturdy looking leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob that makes for an amazing grip. The Duster cabin is spacious and comfortable with a leather upholstery option available in one of the variants (RxZ).
The monocoque body of the Duster also manages to pass the comfort and safety tests with good grades as it has been well endowed in these fields. Controls for both audio and telephonic devices have been mounted on the steering wheel thus giving the driver a relaxed and easy ride. The steering wheel also comes with the option of tilt steering to offer the driver the freedom to choose the most comfortable seating and driving position. A charging socket has been given in the front and in addition to it, a 12 V charging socket has been implemented in the rear also making conditions more convenient for the rear seat passengers.
It comes equipped with dual air bags in the front for both - the driver’s as well as the passenger’s seats. It also has an Anti Lock Brake System (ABS) combined with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) that assists in effective braking even in adverse situations. An extremely important feature that the Duster has is the Reverse Parking Sensors which come in particularly handy while parking in crammed spaces.
The Renault Duster also has an integrated Navigation System that helps you find directions easily and precisely since it gives a bird’s eye view of the streets and places. These maps can be updated using USB devices.
As for the trunk space, what is an SUV that doesn’t come with ample of it? After all, an SUV is meant not just for city driving but also some adventures away from the drab everyday routines. The Renault Duster offers a boot space of 475 litres and can be further increased to 1064 litres by folding the second row of seats.
The Renault Duster comes in three engine options in a total of eight variants. The RxE is the base model, the RxL is the mid segment and the RxZ is the top end model.
• The RxE has two variants: Petrol RxE and Diesel 85 PS RxE

The Renault Duster comes across as one of the finest cars today in the country. Built in just the right size and furnished with the most practical features, this car is perfect for a range of consumers out there. It not just poses a stiff competition to its rivals in the segment but is a definite winner already as is evident by the large number of Dusters which we spot daily cruising on the Indian roads.
Renault was looking and praying for the elusive success in India. None of its earlier 3 launches; Fluence, Koleos and Pulse had managed to make their dealership cash register ring. Duster from Renaults Romanian subsidiary Dacia, did precisely that for Renault and its dealers. Duster success in marketing terms could be defined as creation of a new paradigm. SUV`s are big, therefore scary and difficult to drive in crowded cities. Duster is compact and yet a full blown SUV. SUV`s guzzle fuel, Duster does not. SUV`s focuses on adventure and thrill at the cost of comfort. Duster does all that without compromising comfort. It`s high ground clearance, low turning radius, compact dimensions made it darling of all cars buyers wanting to own an SUV but scared by all things SUV. It`s loaded with a matched heart minus exorbitant price tag made it an immediate success and drove traffic to Renault`s counter. Duster is young, exciting and yet within reach, no wonder every Indian wants to get behinds its wheels.
