Pajero’s off-road credentials are beyond suspicion as there are numerous die-hard fans that swear by its ruggedness and all-terrain conquering capabilities. And now Mitsubishi has added convenience of automatic transmission to Pajero Sport package. Launched in market at Rs 23.55 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) Sport AT is latest addition to Pajero series and comes only in 4X2 configuration. There has been no change in power plant with same 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine powering this latest edition. This engine is good for 178 PS of max power and 350 Nm of max torque that is quite sufficient from performance point of view. In 4X4 version though the torque generation is to the tune of 400 Nm i.e. 50 Nm more than what AT version has got. This reduced torque is unlikely to affect performance of Pajero AT as it is lighter by 105 kg than its 4X4 avatar. New Pajero Sport got convenience of 5-speed AT transmission that can also be operated through steering mounted paddle shifters. Power is channelized to rear wheels and an ARAI certified mileage of 12.8 km/l makes this whole AT package quite impressive. In addition to mechanical update, Pajero Sport AT comes with some mild cosmetic alterations. There is new grille up front, slightly redesigned bumper and new fog lamp housings making Pajero frontage a bit sassier than before.
