Maruti has updated its hot-selling Alto K10 hatchback and launched it with host of mechanical and cosmetic upgrades. Although there are number of additions new Alto K10 features, the addition of AMT stands out in the whole gamut of attraction featured on new Alto. Frontage of new Alto consists of new front grille, new headlamps and a restyled bumper. Side profile is embellished with 13” wheels and almost identical to outgoing model. At rear there are new tail lamps and restyled bumper trying to add zing to the overall posture. Inside the cabin changes are more comprehensive and perceptible. New dash board now sports a swoopy design and in two-tone finish it feels quite soothing to eyes. Centre console is now more in synch with the time and though it lacks the feel of Eon, still it is definitely a huge improvement over the outgoing model. Space feeling is not as much improved as we would desire and Alto K10 is best-suited only for 4 persons. Maruti has also slipped in AMT in top-end variant VXi and with price stacking below Rs 4 lakh, Alto K10 AMT is cheapest AMT available in country on sale now. What further impresses is the overall mileage that is rated at 24.07 km/l.
Alto is a small car designed by Suzuki. It was first introduced in the year 1979 and is currently in its seventh generation. In India, the fifth generation of Alto was introduced in the year 2000 as Maruti Alto. It was an Indian built version manufactured by Maruti Suzuki.
In the year 2010 Maruti Suzuki launched another version of its popular car which was named as Alto K10. The car was launched in 2 variants: Alto K10 LXI and Alto K10 VXI. This entry level car is today competing in the market with Chevrolet’s Spark, Hyundai i10.
In December 2012, a limited version of the Alto K10 was brought and was named Alto K10 Knightracer. This limited edition was being offered with new Knightracer body graphics, a roof end spoiler, full wheel cover, body side mouldings, a left side ORVM, new seat cover, a rear parcel tray, a steering wheel cover, mud flaps and a JVC MP3 USB Player & speaker.
The launch of Alto K10 helped boost the sales of Alto brand up to manifold and cross the limit of 20 lakh sales landmark.
The design and power of Alto K10 has raised the expectations of its manufacturer as well as the customers. The interiors of the Alto K10 are quiet elegant and comfortable then its regular Alto. The car uses 3 spoke power assisted steering wheel, a new instrument cluster with a tachometer whose appearance seems to be good and easy to read. The other features include digital fuel gauge, dual trip meter, a new gear know which is shorter in length and feels comfortable to hold. Good use of colours inside has made the inside look quite better and vibrant then before.
Moving on to the spacing, the dashboard is the same as in the previous Alto. There are cup holders and rear parcel tray for more storage. Boot space can also be increased by folding the rear seat. High qualities of fabrics have no doubt increased the comfort level inside the car but the use of slim front seats to increase the space is a bit disappointment. Though, it claims to have increased knee room for the rear passengers. Remote operated back door and fuel tank lid opener are added advantages in the new Alto K10. A new Key-off reminder reminds you to take the keys with you. The car has safety features like collapsible steering column, side impact beams and child Lock. Another disappointment is the absence of music system and will have to get it installed by paying extra bucks.
The exterior of the car looks more stylish and powerful than before. The curvier than before body has increased its appeal. The angular headlights and bigger grille gives it a bold appearance. The new tail light looks good and goes well with the design. Alto K10 body coloured bumpers gives an extra ordinary look to the car. The black door handle adds to the style of the car. Another mentionable feature of the new K10 is the 13 inch tubeless tires which are larger than its older version.
Moving forward to its technical specifications, Maruti Alto K10 has a swept volume of 998cc and uses all Aluminum Light Weight K10B engine type and meets the BS IV compliant norms. The engine can attain 0 to 100 kmph in just 13.3 seconds which is higher than its previous versions. The engine promises to deliver 20.2 kmpl of fuel efficiency.
Overall, the car is a good buy for those who want a low budget powerful car.
