The compact SUV Quanto has been developed by auto Major Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd and was launched in the Indian market in October 2012. The Quanto is the only sub-four-meter MPV to be launched in India.
The look of Mahindra Quanto is very similar to Mahindra Xylo and may rightly be called Mini Xylo. With the launch of this vehicle, Mahindra & Mahindra entered into competition with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift Diesel, Hyundai i20 Diesel, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Petrol and Premier Rio.
The Mahindra Quanto comes with 1.5 L mCR100 engine, the only one in India to have a twin stage turbocharger. It is mated with 5 speed manual gear box and can deliver maximum power of 100 PS @3750 rpm and maximum torque of 240 NM @1600-2800 rpm.
The use of micro hybrid technology in the vehicle automatically puts the engine into standby mode 2.5 seconds after you shift the gear into neutral at a signal or in bumper-to-bumper traffic. The engine starts again as soon as you get back on the clutch. This helps conserve fuel and improve efficiency. The engine promises to deliver a maximum fuel efficiency of 17.2 kmpl.
When it comes to the exterior look, Mahindra Quanto is a mini Xylo. Its sub-four-meter body length qualifies the vehicle to get the excise benefits in India. The first look at the vehicle will get you noticed the resemblance from its inspirer Xylo but a deeper look at the vehicle will help you spot the differences. The car has a signature Mahindra front grille that imparts a premium and an aggressive look to the vehicle. The fog lamps and the sporty roof rails enhance the style factor and give the Quanto a sporty look. The blackened pillars add to the style quotient while enhancing the vehicles compact dimension. The headlights of Quanto are similar to that of Xylo. Moving towards the rear, the vehicle looks to have cut abruptly. The rear has a spare wheel surmounted on the tail gate and a simple tail lamp. The wiper on the rear glass adds to the sportiness of Quanto.
The Quanto’s resemblance to Xylo has been carried forward to the interior as well. It uses the dual colour tone as it is in Xylo. The door trims, inside door handles and the plastics used in the interiors also resembles to that of Xylo. The vehicle is quite spacious from inside and can seat 7 people including 2 people in the back. The vehicle has quite spacious headroom and legroom. The driver seat is height adjustable. The four-spoke steering wheel can be tilted and adjusted as per our convenience.
The car has powerful AC vents, 2 DIN audio systems with USB drives, SD cards, an aux-in facility and plays MP3 discs too. Other features in the Quanto include 3 mobile charging points (one on the instrument panel, other on the second row, and the third on the third row) and a rear window demister to clear the rear vision on cold foggy mornings.
In terms of spacing, Quanto has an innovative under seat storage space that can also be locked. The second row seat has foldable snack tray and bottle holders on all the 4 doors and 5 bottle holders in all.
Safety is one of the most important aspects of every vehicle. Mahindra Quanto is equipped with several features to enhance the security of the passengers. It has an intelligent reverse assist which helps in easy reversing of the vehicle and the sensors beep if it comes within 120 cms of any obstacle. The front has two airbags for the safety of the river and the co-passenger seating on the front seat. It also has an anti-lock braking system coupled with EBD, engine immobilizer which switches off the fuel supply to the engine when a wrong key is used to start the car. Other safety features include fog lamps for better visibility and body over frame chassis construction.
