The most awaited car from Ford, this sub 4000 mm, sub 1500 cc diesel and petrol car was finally launched in June 2013. Ecosport was in news for many months, the car was supposed to be launched in Sept 2012m but after many dates (like a typical Indian court date), it saw light of the day in June 2013.
EcoSport for Ford was the new life line after dropinng Figo sales, non-existant New Fiesta sales in India. EcoSport launch can be compared, in terms of it`s importance to Ford to Ikon, which was launched in late 2000. Prior to Ikon, Ford was almost on the verge of collapse in India. Ikon gave it a new lease of life and extended Ford`s life span by another 6-8 years, till it also lost steam as expected. Ford is banking on EcoSport and banking heavily. A fact that becomes obvious from multiple launch dates and ambitious sales target of almost 90000 cars, so ambitious it is that Ford expects to garner sales equal to all its cars (Figo, Endeavour, Fiesta Classic and Fiesta) in the year April 2012 to March 2013. Ambitious it is.
Had the EcoSport come in Sept 2012, it would have had a chance to establish it self in a growing market, but June 2013 coudl be a different ball game all together. We believe that EcoSport has in it to make it big for Ford, how big, only time will tell, reason for thsi caution is simply the dropping auto market.
