BMW 7-Series (E23) was under the production from the year 1977 to the year 1986. It had the 6 cylinder petrol engine. E 38 was the third generation of E series that was manufactured on an enormous scale between the year 1994 and 2001. E65 7-series came in the manufacturing line from 2001 to 2008. It was the 4 generation E series, wherein for the first time the Hydrogen 7 engine was introduced. E 65 was also the first in line to put into use unique chassis codes for different versions. E 65 was the standard wheel based version, whereas, the E 66 was the long wheelbase version and the E 67 was high security version. The E 68 on the other hand was the Hydrogen 7 version.
